CI, RR turned on and back off

Pacemaker Feb 21, 2012; stamina hasn't built back up; RR turned on month ago; any exertion at all, i.e. housework, putting on clothes, etc., causes burning in the middle of my chest and rise in HR. When exertion stops, HR goes back down to 60 (pacer set to) and burning goes away. Back to pacemaker guy at cardiologist who turned RR completely off; so, back to no stamina, any exercise wears me out! Anyone had this? Thanks.

RR Adjustment

by ebfox - 2012-09-17 01:09:59

You need to go back in, turn on Rate Response, and get the tech to adjust it for your activity level. The best way for you to walk on a treadmill while the technician adjusts (I have heard about techs allowing the patient to run around the parking lot, go up the stairs, etc.) You have to find a tech that has experience doing this; your complaint is not uncommon. Aparently a lot of technicians don't know how to adjust RR.

Good luck- let us know how it works out.

Chronotripic Incompetence, RR

Thanks so much for the info. My PM is Boston Scientific, 2 leads. I'm 70, always been strong with good energy; had a tick bite w/bulls-eye rash, doxycycline 7 days, May 2011; 2 different Lyme tests neg; seems implausible but this heart thing began the following Aug and I've just gotten "old" since then. Diagnosed with SSS by Infectious Diseases dr when 2nd Lyme test came back neg. Sent to Cardiologist; cath showed only 20% blockage in one artery. Only heart problems I've ever had were pvc's/palpitations which were "stress" related. I got the PM for the low HR - below 40 and take 5 mg Bystolic for the run-a-way high HR! I have appt. for PM interrogation on 10/4 and will ask them to turn RR back on and adjust it. Thanks again, EB! It's good to hear from folks who've "been through it." And, 28sedan, hope they help you, too!
