A little disturbing.......

Hi everyone,

It's been a long time since I posted.

Was in to the Pacemaker Clinic on Wednesday and the printout revealed that my pacemaker had 'stopped' three times (for short periods) last August.

My Cardiologist looked very concerned, I'm 100% PM dependent, and asked 'where were you last August that had a very strong magnetic field?'

Guess he was going to tell me to stay away but the only thing I could think of was that I was at that Hospital having...

Nintendo WII

Hi, all...I just got a call today from my sister-in-law who works in a nursing home. She stated that they received a letter warning any of their residents with pacemakers not to play a Nintendo WII due to interferences with the pacemaker. Has anyone else heard of this? I know the controllers and such are all wireless, and maybe they have quite a strong frequency? Just wondering, as we have a WII at the Personal Care Home I work at!

Body Fat Monitor Scales

So I've had my pacemaker for about 7 months...no problems. I just reviewed closely then ordered a new body fat monitor w/ scale. I open it up when it arrives all excited about my new toy when I see this big fat warning that those with PMs shouldn't use it. Called Medtronic, they agreed. However I've seen comments on here that it's ok...just a cya type precaution. What do you think? Do I have to send it back? Can I just use the weight function and not the body fat part? I had one before t...

pacemaker leads

the advisory posted march 20 1998 on the fda website is a good read . it tell about digital tv transmission and medical telemetry systems. i am sure that medical telemetry systems can withstand more outside digital interference than a mere set of pm leads or for that matter a pm itself.

My cardologist's take on it.

I ask the cardio during the checkup about having laser eye surgery. Both he and the Medtronics rep said no problem. Then they got to kidding around about warning some dear old soul not to use an arc welder! They were is a good mood today.

I mentioned some of the things I have been around such as ham radio transmitters, car engines, hand power tools, etc. and the Medtronic rep said it wasn't an issue. They have done a lot to filter out this sort of interference. The only other thing th...

electric toothbrush

Hi All

Does anyone use an electric toothbrush? I was using one for a while and wondered why my heart always jumped about while brushing my teeth - I then realised it could be the toothbrush interfering with my pacer. I hate using a manual brush but am a bit concerned now, are electric toothbrushes safe to use?

thanks

store alarms

I set off the store alarm system when I walked in this nice gift store yesterday. As I was trying to leave it of course went off again. The cashier had me come back in to the front of the store (with everyone watching by this point) as I tried to explain to her that I just got a pacemaker last week. She did not believe me at first and one customer actually said "you look to young to have a pacemaker". Luckily they did believe my 12 year old daughter. I had stood directly in front of the dev...

pacemakers and magnets????

Hi, I hope someone can help me. My son had a pacemaker fitted when he was 2 and he is now nearly 9 years old. When my son started school he had to a have a pacemaker care plan for the school. We spoke to his Cardiac doctor about what we needed to put on this care plan. At that point he told us that my son should not have No contact with magnets and No contact sports. So with the school heath nurse we made a care plan, which has been no problem until now. My sons head teacher has decided that thi...
