Chest Pains

Hi All,

I have been experiencing some chest pains over the last week, it started off every now and again, now its happening 4-5+ times per day. Saw my GP on wednesday who did a chest X-ray, ECG and bloods, all seemingly NAD.

Pain is like a knawing, squeezing feeling on my left chest, it is associated with some dizziness. Today it now radiates to my shoulder blade on the left side, with nausea and dizziness. It comes and go's, lasting any time from 2 minute to a half hour.

Risk to pacemaker from Cardioversion

I’ve had a pacemaker since 2008. No problems. Battery has 14 projected months.

In the last 6 months I have developed Atrial Fibrillation and the Dr. wants to do a Cardioversion to attempt to restore sinus rhythm.

Questions...

1. Will external defibrillation destroy a pacemaker (or the leads)?

2. Is there some special approach needed to electrically cardiovert a person wearing a pacemaker?

Question

I had an extremely high heart rate (upper 190s) and on the max dosage of metoprolol daily. About 3 1/2 years ago, I had my heart ablated 3 times to slow my heart rate down. The third time, it slowed it down too much (into the low 40s) and ended up with a pacemaker implanted in 2/2008. I still take metoprolol 25 mg twice a day and recently my heart rate has been getting up to 105 several times a week. Does anybody have any possible ideas why this could be happening? area of pm swelling

Hey guys having problem with my pm I've had it in for one year now. It's feels like its moving up near my collarbone and swelling feeling like a bee sting can't get comfortable at all. Does or have anyone had this problem? The only thing that helps it is icing it. Thanks for any input.

Post surgery complications

My 25 year old son received a pacemaker on Thursday. He came home from the hospital on Friday complaining of pain in the area of the pacemaker. On Saturday night, he had his first instance of the pacemaker working and it made him feel sick as well as he said it felt like his heart was racing and he wasn't sure how long that feeling was supposed to last. iPods?

I wonder if I could get some advice? I've had a pacemaker since September and knew I had to keep my iPod and wires at least 6 inches away from my pacemaker but in was on a long journey with a friend yesterday who was sitting on my right hand side. So opposite side from pm and played her iPod the whole way. I thought this would be fine but felt like crap for ages afterwards and pulse was irregular. Pace Maker

My Father 65yrs has been implanted with a pacemaker 2weeks back.There is no infection and the same is working properly.The problem is a pinkish fluid is oozing out of the operated part and is not drying up.Has any one gone through the same problem?Please reply.He is been administered with antibiotic injections.

Faint & Short of Breath

My father had a pacemaker inserted a few weeks ago after a fainting spell and detection of A-fib. Upon returning home from the hospital, he felt pretty good even though his heart hadn't achieved sinus rhythm quite yet. Oct. 6th-PM for Lone A-Fib and ablation of AV Node(3 leads)
Oct.11-31
Staph Infection, 3 weeks in IC unit, new pacemaker with 1 lead-
October 31st- home with wound vac for wound from first pacemaker. Tired, but doing ok.
December 15th.-got repaced to 70 from 80.

sensation of a shock

Hi there,
I have had my pacemaker without any issues for 1 yr. Recently over the last week I have been experiencing a sensation of a shock along the edge of my pacemaker near my armpit, especially with sudden movements of that arm. No symptoms otherwise it appears that I am still being paced. I am only pacing 25% of the time but have not noticed any of the spells I had before the pacemaker went in. Other heart conditions with a pacer

Hi guys! I feel like this is the place to turn to for support. I'm 3 weeks post op from my dual chamber buddy. Recovery has been rough for me. I was told in the hospital I have mitral valve regurgitation but its mild and well have to watch it.

My dad has heart disease, multiple heart attacks and had a quadruple bypass 3yrs ago. He saw his cardio this morning and was told he has a severe leak in his mitral valve and will need to have open heart again.

Arm Swelling

Hi Everybody,

Just wanted to ask if anyone knows about whether the pacemaker (on my left side) would possibly affect the lymph nodes' efficiency to my left arm. I had my arm swell up moderately after a relatively hot day and then once again took myself off to hospital. I ended up having tests for a dvt etc, all was clear. This was on Christmas day so no one really wanted to investigate further and I am now wondering what it could be ? I am thinking it may be a mild case of lymphedema...

Does it ever end?

Been a year since my PM was installed for bradycardia. Five years prior to that I had an ablation for A flutter. After 2 trips to the emergency room over the weekend with a HR in the 130-135 range I find out that my PM is pacing that high because I'm having A flutter issues again. Too fast, too slow and back to too fast again. Talking about another ablation for the flutter and while in will deal with any possible future A fib issues. Anyone else have this much fun?

Acid Reflux or Nerves?

Has anyone experienced the following?
I got first PM in 2000 and the second one in October 2010. All fall I started experiencing periodic pain listed below. However, it has begun to intensify and last longer.
