Increasing Pulse Rate

I have a Medronic ADDR01 dual chamber. I have a lwer setting of 60 BPM. I have heard (another chat room) that when my model pacemaker senses a quick drop in HR of 25 beats it automatically increases the up to 80 for 2 minutes. Can anyone confirm this?
Also another problem I have is this: If I am doing a physical activity that is basically anaerobic that gets the heat rate over say 100, suddenly my pulse shoots way up and I feel like my heart is fluttering. I get an unonfortortable feeling i...

Exercise

I have had a PM for most of my life. Just recently I started working out. I do the tread mill and then some of the exercise machines. My PM is in on my left side. I don't force myself to do the exercise but when I do the arms my left arm seems to be weaker and a little tenser (if that is a word). Is this normal? I don't want one side to be stronger then the other. I am only 34. What kind of exercise should I do to improve?

Pacemaker made me stop exercising

I’m 42 years old and I got a pacemaker a year ago. Since then I have had some problems keeping my lifestyle and leads in place. I have had my leads replaced twice since I got the first surgery. The doctor did not find the reason.

I exercise every day and do physical work all the time. But now, the pacemaker is like a strong brake that is making me slow down too fast and sudden because I believe the exercise is causing the failured leads. I still feel young and energetic, b...

Post pacemaker running

Hi there, I am 44 and received a pm on Dec. 23rd. I am a runner and am having a difficult time getting my stamina back since the pm. The technician keeps tweaking the pm but I still don't have any stamina and feel, at times, like I cannot run more that 2-3 miles. I received the pm due to bradycardia and am set at 70 bpm. Any suggestions or info. would be very appreciated, thank you...

Question on Garmin- Running Watch

Hello everyone!!

I am "fingers crossed" going to start training for a half marathon. I just bought a Garmin forerunner to track my runs- I see it has a heart rate tracker- Before using it, I wanted to make sure it's safe- I don't think my pacemaker would be affected by it at all? I'm sure my fellow runners on here have one, so just wanted to get the all clear before breaking it out tomorrow on the open road!

Thank you in advance.

YOGA EXERCISES--ASANAS

Need some advice as to which Yoga exercises to do.  Just 5 weeks from surgery and have practiced Yoga for about 5 years off and on -- since getting this heart condition I was forced to drop Yoga.  Now need the stretching and back exercises to do at home.

Thanks,

Muscle growth

Recently I have started lifting weights. I dont have a problem doing bench press, but I can't grow any muscle on the inside of my left pectoral (to the side of the ICD). Does anyone have the same problem and have any advice about it?

Also, does anyones leads portrude out of the skin? Mine have become quite noticible, possibly due to the muscle growth.

Lastly, what are the pros and cons to having the pacemaker underneath or above the muscle?

Cardiovascular Training

I have had my PM for 2 weeks now. So far, so good. I was cleared to start riding my stationary bike last week and it feels great to be able to exercise again. My upper limit is set at 140 for now until my next visit with my EP. My question is that as I get into more and more training, is it possible to use your heart rate as a training tool? Before my PM all my training used a heart rate monitor and I would check my pulse first thing every morning to check my recovery status. Now that my l...

Pacemakers and exercise

Hi all!
I am new here.  I am happy to be here!  I had a liver transplant in 2005 amd a pacemaker in 2010. I had bradycardia. I am also diabetic. But that doesn’t slow me down. I walk 1 hour 4 times a week and do weight lifting three times a week.  I use a light bar with 5 lb. weights and 5 lb. dumbbells.  I also love to do dancing aerobics. My cardiologist heartily approves. I have a Boston Scientific Altrua 606 and it a gem. I am glad to encourage all to just ta...

Winded at first when exercising?

I had a Medtronic EnRhythm Pacemaker implanted 2 months ago, lower level set for 50 bpm. I also have a-fib and take Multaq. I have been climbing steps in my building for aerobic exercise. The first time I climb the five flights up I get very winded and have to stop 2 or 3 times. I descend the five flights and never have to stop again for the next 9 ascents of the five flights. (It feels like my heart/pacemaker isn't working and then it wakes up and then I am "fit"--the 4th time I ascend see...

Hills and Stairs

I have had a pacemaker for 15 years and have been able to lead an active life with lots of physical activity: weighttraining, biking, swimming, vigorous walking, etc.

However, I get into trouble if I have to climb a moderately steep hill or climb stairs over one story. I find it helps to gently paddle my pacemaker, more or less in beat to my gait. It also helps if I swing my arms vigorously.

Isn't there a pacemaker out there that is sensitive to a hill/stairs and calls f...

Nobody wants to join clubs

Hi everybody,

Just got the news Friday from my cardiologist that I'll be joining the club next month with a PM for Bradycardia. My heart rate was down into the thirties.

I'm a male in my mid 60s and play hockey 2 to 3 times a week and also work out twice a week. In the summer months I'm an avide golfer.

The doctor told me 4 years ago I would need a PM and now the time is here.

Found this site while looking for info on PM.

You're right doct...

protection for sports (hockey)

Hi All

Have had a PM for 4 years now and just needed it replaced, with a new lead, due to battery life. The new one seems more predominant than the last one and I had concerns about protecting it so if was hit with a stick or puck it would not cut me. The manufacturer assured me the unit wouldn’t get damaged... just me!

I play non contact hockey and never wore shoulder pads until I had my first PM. I just cut off the shoulder part and wore the chest protection...

question about excercise

Hello everyone. I'm new here and got my pacemaker five days ago. I feel better than I have in years and am looking forward to working out. My question...since my pacemaker is in the left side of my pectoral muscles, will I ever be able to do weight training excercises, like flies, where you hold heavy weights while laying on a bench and completely stretching out your chest and pectoral muscles. Do I have to worry about those wires pulling out of my heart?

empty hollow feeling in chest

Hi, all of you. Last Oct. 14th boyfriend, age 62, going on ten, had pacemaker implanted. Felt fine before pace maker, but holter monitor test showed resting heartrate went down in 20's during sleep. Very active, p.e. coach type. We posted in Oct. and you were all very helpful. We thought we had all glitches settled, but now four months later still have problems.

Last week he hiked down to river, one mile easy, rested a couple of minutes, turned around to walk back up, had to stop thr...

Lead Extraction

Hi, I’m having my PM removed as well as the leads next week. I’ve had it in for 6 years now, but my neurological issue causing my heart to slow has been corrected, so it was determined that the PM could come out.  My question is, has anyone had a lead extraction and their thoughts on recovery time. I’m very comfortable with the doctor but more concerned about how long I will be out of commission. Just had a baby and wanted to be able to get back on my feet as soo...
