Hi All
Have had a PM for 4 years now and just needed it replaced, with a new lead, due to battery life. The new one seems more predominant than the last one and I had concerns about protecting it so if was hit with a stick or puck it would not cut me. The manufacturer assured me the unit wouldn’t get damaged... just me!
I play non contact hockey and never wore shoulder pads until I had my first PM. I just cut off the shoulder part and wore the chest protection in case of accidental contact. My replacement seems to be more or less just under the skin and I was concerned that my foam protection was no longer enough.
I went on line to see what was out there and after reading a lot of stuff with other people looking for the same, particularly for their kids, I realized that nothing was really out there.
Well.... I found the answer!
I went looking for shoulder pads with plastic protection over the area but no luck. Looked at hockey, football quarterback, and down hill mountain biking pads but either too big, too bulky, too firm against my PM, etc. This week at a hockey sports store in Waterdown I found my perfect match!
Woman’s shoulder pads! Hey dudes.... Im a 48 year old guy and even when I tried them on I didn’t know they were womens.
The shop owner Corrine was laughing at me as I tried them on... not knowing what I needed them for.... and said to "look at what I was wearing"! She said "you have womens shoulder pads on... why do you think they have the plastic cups on the front". Well not as if they stick out like a set of double D’s, they are just small convex plastic inserts built right into the chest of the padding.
I bought them, took them home, cut off the shoulder pad portion and they fit perfectly right over my PM. If I get contacted there I don’t even feel it on the PM as it is cupped around it. The cups are obviously on both sides but worked for me as my PM is on my right side, where most are on the left. And you would never know they were womens.
They are made by Bauer, model Supreme One35. If anyone wants more info or pictures let me know. With them now I’m thinking I’ll wear them ATV’ing or whenever there may be a chance to get hit in the chest. Might even try them on the ball diamond this year. (never worn protection playing ball before). They are navy blue, and black so either guys or girls can where them.
Hope this helps a few of you out there!
Mike
