Hello everyone. I'm new here and got my pacemaker five days ago. I feel better than I have in years and am looking forward to working out. My question...since my pacemaker is in the left side of my pectoral muscles, will I ever be able to do weight training excercises, like flies, where you hold heavy weights while laying on a bench and completely stretching out your chest and pectoral muscles. Do I have to worry about those wires pulling out of my heart?

I will most certainly follow my doctors advise on excercising. Just wanted to hear from others who do weight training. Glad to hear you survived an accident with a hit the pacemaker. They must be tougher than I orginally thought.

Look in the Exercise & Sports Forum. There's a recent thread that covers the subject extensively. The title of the thread is- "Re Shake Weight and Too Much Upper Body Exercise".
Have a positive attitude. I've had my PM since Sept. I think I may have skied harder and faster this morning than I ever have.

The best I can do is instruct you to speak to your dr. There is going to be a healing process, but it shouldn't be too bad.
I do weight lifting at the "Y" and I have been cautioned by my dr. to not over do it! So I try to be aware of how my muscles are holding up. If it hurts, stop doing it until you feel better, start out slow and work back up to where you want to be.
Make sure you speak to your dr before beginning an exercise program or picking up where you left off.
Most of us here are not drs. and we don't want you to get hurt but we like to encourage you at the same time.
You know you're wired when...

You have at least 6 weeks before you can even THINK about exercise. The incisions have to heal & that takes time. Only your Dr. knows, so ask him before you do anything.
I don't think you have to worry about the harpoons pulling out of Moby Dick's hide inside your heart. Mine survived being hit by a Jeep Cherokee didn't come out 6 weeks after being implanted. Much to the surprise of my Cardio.
