Does anyone train with a heart rate monitor or even specifically a Polar FT60? Do you know if it has a magnet in the chest strap? I tried contacting Polar, but they're located in Finland. No 800# (Grrrr....). Thanks!!

Can I ride dirt bikes? I am a 50-yr old male with an ICD implanted on 10-14-10. I had an MI on 7-8-10 with 90% blockage of the RCA & less in the LAD. The Dr placed two stents that nite and placed me on meds.
I then had a VTAC on 10-6-10 while on the treadmill at Cardio Rehab. They discovered the electrical issues & eventually placed the ICD. I have completed 3 months of cardio rehab, I play softball, baseball & they are allowing me to wakeboard and jet ski. But the nurse liaison between B...

I have a pacemaker with a battery life that is dwindling quickly --any suggestions on heart rate monitor watches for use while running. Still working, but I have had previous ones' die without warning and heartrate dropped into upper 20's.....which was more than a little scary. Thx!

Please offer advice on scuba diving. I'd like to go open water diving down to 30 meters. My Medtronic Versa was implanted 6 months ago. My thought was that it migh collapse like a water bottle on a plan when descending to 30 meters. Anyone with experience on this, Medtronic cautions and etc.
Kind regards,
jd

With ski season slowwwly winding down (still lots of snow on the mtn) I'm starting to spend time in the gym. Today I noticed that as my heart rate went up- the following happened:
once over 100 it skipped about 1 every 20+/- beats; once in 110-120 range it started skipping every third beat 2 times then after the 7th, and essentially maintained that sequence. Once back down 100-110 area it went back to skipping once every 20+/- and below 100 back to normal. What made me check was that I star...

Before I got my PM a year ago I would get an occasional massage. I have pulled a ligament in leg now and think it would be helpful to have a theraputic massage to help it heal. I have such a fear of being touch anywhere near my PM. Would even my back need to be avoided above the waist for fear of disrupting the PM.? I am a 71 year old woman with SSS being my only health issue.

Hi there,
I am a 48 year old female who had a pacemaker put in 2 years ago. I am starting to work out again after 13 years, and want to start running again. I just wanted to ask anyone if they know if it's safe to start exercising again and running with a pacemaker. I know walking is ok but I want to start a long distance running program like I used to do, so it's a pretty intense type of workout. I was wondering what any of your experiences have been with exercise. I have a pacemaker...

I had a 2-wire pacemaker installed two months ago. My history may be of use to others.
I am a 79-year-old who has run eight marathons, my last at age 50 being my personal best of 3 hours 23 minutes. Since marathoning I have had a very low pulse rate. In those days a doctor once measured it in the 20s. I was proud of that as it is typical of marathon runners and generally a sign of heart health.
I have also had labile hypertension. Sometimes my pressure...

Can anyone recommend a decent, but not too expensive recumbent bike. There are so many out there it makes my head swim, no it's not the med's! I am the first to admit that i hate exercise, used to get mine walking the dogs a couple of times a day. that has been my husbands job for the last year or so. I got weaker, not knowing i had heart failure, so now i have my CRT-D, and i hope to get back to the walking. However i live in south florida, and as anyone who lives here can tell you, it gets ver...

Hello, I am new to this site and have a question!! I am 31 years old and was implanted with a bi-ventricular pacemaker in January of 2007. I was supposed to be on the list for a transplant, but I am happy to report that I am kicking like a chicken since I had the surgery!! However, I am beginning to notice that my circulation sucks here lately! I want to exercise but I am not sure whether I should or not! You cannot ask a Dr. that because they say that with my EF @ 12%, that there is nothin...

I had a pacemaker placed in 6/7/10 and my husband and I are going on a cruise March 2012. We are thinking about doing scuba diving, but I am wondering if this will be possible with my pacemaker. We want to try and get scuba diving certified before we go next year, but not sure if my doctor will sign off on it or not. Just wondering if anyone out there has scuba diving experience with a pacemaker or not.
Thanks much.

This message is all of you who are about to get a pacemaker. I had a Boston Scientific implanted on 1/17/11. I have a great doctor who specializes in electro-cardiology. In 2 weeks I was able to get back on a stationary bike. In 4 weeks I was running again. In 6 weeks he allowed me to start swimming again. On 3/11 I ran 6 miles & swam 1.2 miles. On 3/12 I rode my bike for 2 1/2 hrs averaging 18mph. On 6/13 ran 6 miles.
When I first learned that I would need a PM I looked for a doctor that ha...

I have a rowing machine-not one of the fancy flywheel types, but the kind that uses shock absorber-like things for arm resistance. My EP seemed freaked out when I asked about it (PM installed 12-20-10) in my 6-week follow up. Haven't been to the cardiologist yet. What is your experience? Will I be able to row again soon?

I love the competition and social aspects of tennis. i play against ex pro and college div 1 players... Is there anyone out there that plays at my 5.0 to 4.5 level after having a PM put in?

I have had a Boston Scientific PM for 3 + years. The last few months I seem to "run out of gas " when I do cardio exercise . I went in to see the pacer tech and he turned on the setting that will increase my heartrate when my respiration increase. This was yesterday. What I am noticing is a sore spot in my left armpit when I move my arm in certain positions. I am wondering if I am sensing the new mode or whether it is just a muscular thing. Has anyone experienced this? Also has anyone ex...

I've been doing something I never thought I'd be able to do, an exercise boot camp. I thought it would be too hard for me but a friend convinced me to go with her. It's one of the military style ones where they kick your butt 5 days a week for 5 weeks. The coaches wear shirts that say You Can Puke But You CAN'T Quit. And yes, they mean it, lol, tho they all know about my pm and cut me slack when I get dizzy. I have never worked so hard or been so sore or had so much FUN! This is week two so I'm...

A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.
