Rowing machine?

I have a rowing machine-not one of the fancy flywheel types, but the kind that uses shock absorber-like things for arm resistance. My EP seemed freaked out when I asked about it (PM installed 12-20-10) in my 6-week follow up. Haven't been to the cardiologist yet. What is your experience? Will I be able to row again soon?

Rowing Machine

I went to the gym to sign up last week and I was told that the new equipment can interfere with the pacemaker if it has the heart rate sensors. I don't understand it but apparently it sends signals through your body to sense the rate when you put your hands on the detector bit. Maybe you could start some research on this?

Wrong!

The sensors read your heart rate by picking up the hearts electrical signal and measuring the time between beats. There is no need to send any signals into your body.

The only reason the EP might have been concerned with the rowing machine is that the movement involves some stretching similar to reaching above shoulder level. After a few weeks though this shouldn't be a problem either. At the next appt ask more detailed questions about how much resistance and extent of movements are OK at your current recovery. Also, when you can return to your usual levels.
