new pacemaker implant

HI all.  My brother just had a pacemaker put in yesterday, but he tells me he can actually see the silver generator under his clear dressing.  His sister in law says skin will eventually grow over it.  I have been a cardiac nurse for years and have never seen this.  I have a pacer myself.  Can someone tell me if they have had it done this way or ever heard of it.

Feeling Weak After Standing for An. Hour or so Three Weeks Post Surgery

It's been 3 weeks since getting my pacemaker and things have been going well. A few unusual twinges and heartbeats, still some soreness and tenderness but feeling better every day. Haven't been very active - going out for lunch a few times, seeing a movie, doing a little grocery shopping, etc.  So today I thought I would do a little baking. Long story short I ended up working in kitchen for about an hour. Then I started feeling a little weak. Managed to finish up a...

New Pacemaker

Hi everyone I joined tonight!  Just had a dual chamber pacemaker put in yesterday at 10A-my brother, sister and Mom all have one but they’ve had them a long time and don’t remember the beginning.  Pardon the pun but did anyone feel wired afterwards?  Like Neuropathy but different?  I wasn’t sleeping well before the procedure but now can’t sleep.  Went from a rate of 30’s to 40’s to 60.

Brand new PM- I feel like I can feel it working?

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm just rather nervous.  Got my PM installed at 1pm Friday, it's now 5am Sunday.  I feel like I can FEEL it in me, feel it working and every once in awhile it does a 'flutter' or a 'tick tick tick' which seems audible, but I think it's just because it's in me.  My pacer is set to 50, and I just took my BP and my heart rate is 50.  Is this just part of getting used to it?  I feel a bit nervous.

Replacement box

Hey I recently got my first pacemaker replaced. It was fine for the first week but I think the new box has moved up to where my incision is. Just wondering do they put the new pacemaker in a different place?

CRT Pacemaker recovery

I have a question about recovery time for implantation of my CRT pacemaker. I now have a two channel St. Jude pacemaker and am going to be swapping it out for a three channel, or CRT pacemaker because of conduction issues and increasing frequent PVC's. My question is this, what is the recovery time before I can go back to work this is put in? I do pretty strenuous work that is mostly upper body related. I climb wind turbines and fix them, sometimes climbing hundreds of feet of vertical la...

New Season of Life!

A month ago I had no idea my 65 -year-old heart wasn't working just fine.  Then came very brief waves of lightheadedness and fatigue which kept me from taking my daily 2+ mile walks. Saw Dr.  after 10 days. Normal EKG & bloodwork.  Wore a Holter Monitor  for 48 hrs.  Before we got results my symptoms increased in severity & frequency.  Sept. 1 I blacked out briefly (felt myself fade out & shake but didn't lose consciousness) whi...

After my surgery

I had a question. I had my PM implanted 2 weeks ago i am 27 and diagnosed with SSS due to SA node dysfunction. 3 hours after my PM surgery they came to test my device and they stated that in those 3 hours i was pacing 67% of the time. Is this a high rate? I know one thing with me using it that much im sure glad i got it and since then no episodes of fainting thank god

A POSITIVE LIGHT

Hi all, I finally went through with my PM implant on September 8 after fighting it to the very end. For the last 3 months I spent way to much time reading about all the things that could go wrong and how this was the end of a normal life instead of looking for the positive effects. For all the people out there sweating and worrying and reading horror stories "just like I did" I was surprised at the simplicity of the operation, in my case the entire team was well organized...

Normal for one week out?

I am a 56 year old woman, and am a week with my pacemaker. I am still very low energy, and have pain across the upper part of my chest, especially when laying down. The good news is I have not experienced any of the lightheaded or fainting spells that precipitated the PM, so I am glad for that. My questions are: is it normal to feel the PM 'kicking in', how long does it take to be able to sleep in bed normally, and when should I be able to expect a return to a norm...

Post-Op Recovery

Hey guys! So I had my MRI Surescan Pacemaker fit this last Tuesday. I'm 27 years old and needed it for pre-syncope and sinus arrests. I've been quite emotional since coming home from the hospital. The site doesn't hurt anymore I just have some neck and back soreness which will go away in time and my esophagus hurts from the breathing tube.

I'm wondering if any of you felt like crap with the antibiotics they give. I'm taking Amox/Clav for a week to ensure I don't...

Arm pain

Hi there.

I had my pacemaker fitted on Wed 30th August 2017. I'm in my eighties and the pain in my arm is considerable at the moment. Is this to be expected, as I'm getting rather anxious about it. I'm still taking my post-op antibiotics and paracetamol for the pain, but they seem to be having negligible effect. Am I expecting too much too soon? Does anyone have any advice for a newby?

Changing a duel lead pacemaker for a CRT

I have had a duel chamber PM for three years now due to AV node ablation. My ejection fraction has reduced by 5% in a year (50%-45%). The doctor said that can happen with a duel chamber PM when you are using it for a CHB. Has anyone had theirs replaced? What was the procedure like? And the post-op period?
