Hi all
Totally new to this site and found it by chance (I'm glad I have, as its answered alot of questions that I had).
I had my pacemaker fitted August 2016, after having some strange passing out sessions earlier in the year - it was if someone just turned the power off on me. They werent very frequent, over a 6 month period i had 4 inceidents (the first 2 i put down to over woking, not enough sleep etc etc)
After visting the DR they found i had left bundle branch block...
What features would you like in a future pacemaker?

I've had a dual lead pacemaker for a little over 2 years now, and don't think I've had any issues with it at all. A friend of mine who is profoundly deaf has a cochlear implant to enable him to hear, and has a remote control to adjust things like volume and several other settings. It made me wonder if it would be any benefit to have our own remote control for pacemakers. I am aware that there are a number of settings that technicians can change, such as rate per...

Got myself infected with an upper respiratory thingy. No fever, but lots of nose blowing, and feeling "beat up." Most obnoxious part is the formation of a cold sore on my lower lip (OUCH!). Obviously a Herpes Simplex attack. I have a 20 day supply of acyclovir on hand which I began using at the first sign of the lip thing forming. Can an incident like mine affect the function of my PM?

Hi, I just came from my first pacemaker check. The tech said I was pacing at 48% She said that was good. It was in the Atrium. None in the Ventricles. Well, she caused my heart to skip when she did the check. She told me she did that! Yippee, did not feel good. My question is, is 48% good or bad or what. I read that the more your heart is paced, the weaker the ejection fraction becomes ( yes I read that on the internet) I don't see the Dr. till next month. She said my leads were in the ri...

I have been waking up early starts about 4am lately, not in pain, but then wake-up about every hour till it is my regular wake up time. Been doing this since pacemaker. Is this because my heart is beating faster at night. Most hearts go down into low 50's at night. Mine is not allowed. Not liking this waking Starting to be concerned.. Thank you very much in advance.ileen

I had total AV heart block in 2011, but as far as I know other than that my heart is healthy with all my blood vessels in good condition etc.
My testosteoron levels are very low and do not want to have injection to boost it for the fear of incresing the risk of protrate cancer .
Can I as an elderly man of 76 use viagra with a heart pace maker installed I am a bit beyond a real interest in sexual activity and have a very low libedo?

I'm not trying to scare everyone, but as a gaget guy I found this article to be rather interesting. As more communications is added to medical devices, manufacturers have contend with possible hacking. The article can be read at:

I would like to ask a question of one of the younger members here. Could someone PM me that does not mind a " fifty shades of gray" question. I am to embarrassed to post it on the general site. And, if that person will swear not to post the answer , to everyone!!please! I just can't ask my Doctor. Thank you in advance. Ileen

Getting active again. Pain in back starting up again... talked to Doc about TENS unit and he said I could do it... found this article: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/19897259_Can_Transcutaneous_Electrical_Nerve_Stimulation_Be_Safely_Used_in_Patients_With_Permanent_Cardiac_Pacemakers
Anyone with an active lifestyle here use a TENS and could you comment your experience?

Hello, just wonderig if there are any London-based members here who might be able to recommend a doctor/clinic to me?
I've recently moved to the UK from the USA and I am very overdue for a pacemaker checkup and genearl heart checkup! I do have some private bridging cover to allow me to see a dr privately initually before I can see one in the NHS system. Any thoughts on Harley st vs London Bridge?.... and further down the line, are there any NHS hospitals that are particuarly g...

I had my St. Jude Medical PM installed in July of 2012 and have had no problems until now. Over the last several months I have had a dull pain around the site the PM in the morning after I wake up. I think its related to the postion I sleep in. The PM is on my left side...and I start out sleep ing on my right side but I move to my left site sometime during the night. Has anyone experience this...
Thanks Tom

This is my first posting, so if I breach any etiquette or talk goofy please be patient with me. I'm 69 and have had a one-wire ICD for 7 years because of idiopathic cardiomyopathy. Beginning a year ago August when I passed out while driving and the ICD discharged, I have been slowly having more problems, including some pulmonary edema which resolved with Lasix. My EF is now 10% and I have left bundle branch block and worse mitral regurgitation. I'm needing viewpoints...

My breath is short at night to the point that I am struggling with sleep. It is particularly bad when I lay down. I have had a pm since I was seven years old. Is this a problem? I don't want to waste the time and money on a doctor if it isn't. Thank you.

Hi All,
I am posting for my dad. He is 60 years old. Had a pacemaker (ICD)surgery in March 2016. His Ejection Fraction was dropped to 10-15%, thats why doctor suggested to get a pacemaker installed. After having pacemaker for 6 months, when his Ejection Fraction was tested again, its just 25%.
I would like to provide few more details here. I would really appreciate your help in deciding whether what our cardiologist is doing is right.
Cardiologist said surgery will take 45 m...

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
