I have been waking up early starts about 4am lately, not in pain, but then wake-up about every hour till it is my regular wake up time. Been doing this since pacemaker. Is this because my heart is beating faster at night. Most hearts go down into low 50's at night. Mine is not allowed. Not liking this waking Starting to be concerned.. Thank you very much in advance.ileen

Sleep

Hiya,
I had this problem too for the first few weeks of having a pacemaker. My heart rate now doesn't go below 80, so was a little difficult to adjust as it used to go to about 50 at night. I used to get to sleep quite quickly then would wake up every hour on the hour and not be able to get back to sleep. It does get better though, after about 2 weeks maybe my body adjusted and my sleeping pattern got back to usual. There is a sleep mode on my pace maker, but my doctor didn't want to turn mine on, but you could try and ask them about that

I've had my PM for 1 week now and sleeping has improved a lot. The first few nights I had a hard time falling asleep and then I would wake up after 3-4 hours and feel like my heart was racing. It creeped me out and I would get up. So I wasn't getting a lot of sleep.
I still wake up during the night but no longer worry too much about the heart rate and manage to get back to sleep.
Not sure what my rate is set at as a minimum but I'll find out next week with my 1st post-op doctor visit.
I'm past the feeling of being overwhelmed, so that's good. I'm sure I'll have some more bumps in the road but this all seems to be working out ok - at least for now.
Real happy to be alive. My heart stopped twice in the ER before they got me into the operating room.

Monitor

One purpose of the monitor .. I have one , took nearly a year to secure . When awakened at 4 am, how many sleep hours ? Many working guys have to awaken then anyway .. if at least 6 hours have elapsed . Were this me, I'd descend the 12 steps and watch TCM, if something good is on ..
Ya'see, your pulse may be increasing too much ....
Sleep tight ..
