My breath is short at night to the point that I am struggling with sleep. It is particularly bad when I lay down. I have had a pm since I was seven years old. Is this a problem? I don't want to waste the time and money on a doctor if it isn't. Thank you.

For anyone, but especially for a heart patient, shortness of breath when laying down is a concern.
Shortness of breath at any time, but especially when laying down could be a sign of heart failure, lung problems, etc. It could always be nothing, but wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry?
I always say it is better to go the ER and have them laugh at you and tell you, "It is just gas," than end up passed out on your bathroom floor becuase it was something more serious! hah! =) Def make an appointment to see your doctor!!

I agree, and hope you have made the appointment already. If you call your cardiologist office, I'm sure they will get you right in.

Hi,
I only got my PM in November and have been having some adjustment issues. My cardiologist and EP both wanted me to call them if I was short of breath while lying down. They seemed to indicate that this would be extremely concerning and could indicate fluid build up around the heart which is potentially fatal.
