New to this

Hi all. I'm new here. I'm 21 and had a pacemaker fitted on Friday. I have a dual chamber pacemaker. All is well at the moment, however ever since I've had the pacemaker fitted I've been experiencing daily flutterings in my chest. Very uncomfortable and they make me cough!

I told the pacemaker clinic and they checked my pacemaker on the machine and apparently all is well and it's only been used 1%. There was a recording on the pacemaker where my heart went to 16...

Does a having a pacemaker damage the heart?

The reason I ask is following my CRT-D implant, having never ever had any runs of VT, I had several with a few hours. Subsequently over the 6 months or so since I’ve had the device I’ve had more ectopic beats than in the previous 10 years (At least that is what it feels like)

So I was sitting thinking about it and wondered if the action of actually screwing electrodes into your sinus node and various other parts of the heart damages them. I know for a fact that it damages he...

Atrial tachycardia

Hi , Would appreciate any help in trying to understand something about the pacemaker. Again I have a dual chamber Medtronic Advisa mri device placed for sss and syncope episode.  I was questioning having the device removed since I am now having frequent episodes of rapid heart rates. The device was evaluated  one week ago and Dr feels I still need it since I am being paced he said at 61 percent atrial, and less than 1 percent ventricle. He placed me on xareltto because he states tha...

Aspirin vs. Warfarin/ Xarelta/ Lovenox

So many questions!  I will be having a total hip replacement soon.  I'm really glad I only have 2 hips because I don't want to do this again.

Last time, 3 1/2 years ago, I had to take Lovenox for 25 days to prevent blood clots.  This time my Ortho says I only need to take 2 aspirin 325 mg. per day instead.  WHAT?  He said "they recently learned" it works just as well??

Has anyone else having an upcoming or recent surgery b...

adult congenital clinic

Those of you who are congenital, are you followed by an adult congenital clinic or specialist? I've had the same cardiologist for 20 years and adore him, but he doesn't have other patients like me and the older I get, the less he seems to know how to advise me. Things are great now, but my concern is the day comes when things aren't so great and he won't know how to handle it. I made an appointment to meet an adult congenital ep at a large university hospital that has a good s...

Should I be worried or am I just impatient?

Hi,

I had a pacemaker fitted just under a week ago for sinus node dysfunction which was highly symptomatic (bradycardia and fatigue). Before the insertion I was ok all the time I was active but got very tired when resting as that is when my heart rate would drop. Having the pacemaker set to stop it dropping below 60 I assumed my energy levels would improve fairly quickly. I went for quite a long walk yesterday (something I used to be able to do without any real problems before inse...

Thank goodness for this site!

Hi,

I am new to all this having only had my pacemaker inserted 4 days ago and just wanted to say what a brilliant site this is and thank you to all of you that post messages. I am 43 and having been told time and time again how a pacemaker is really common and just a routine operation I was not prepared at all for the barrel of emotions that hit me post op. It is so reassuring to come on here and communicate with people who understand. Family and friends are sympathetic to an exten...

Flying

My pm works 40 per cent of the time. First time I flew with it and on take off I felt a thud from my heart. Nearly took my breathe away. It happened again on my return flight. I'm not scared of flying so heart was beating normally.  My doctor can't explain it and I'm ok. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience. Never had it before my pm. Settings were ok too. Could the force of the take off cause this. I welcome any comments.

thanks

St Jude Medical

Hi,

Does anyone know if St Jude Medical send an ID card or do I need to rely on the paper European ID card? It looks from their website that they send cards to people in USA but I'm in UK.

Thanks

MRI

On a recent visit to GP, he started talking about pacemakers.  He said that ALL pacemakers are MRI compatible.  I have been told by my Medtronic tech that mine is definitely not, and not to ever have one. It is 51/2 years old.  When I disagreed with GP he was not happy and confirmed that all people with pacemakers may have an MRI.

I would like to have some opinions please. Thanks.

Had a chuckle

Just 9 days after having my pacemaker surgey we were driving on the interstate and I started laughing.  I told my husband the speed limit 60 sign was me now.  I'm just cruising along on 60.   Guess you gotta make the best of things when you can.

Dual chamber pacemaker

Sorry, I was recently out of town Became very SOB , and the hotel rep called the paramedics. Upon arrival they said my heart rate was been 160- 190 beats for about 20 mins. They wanted to transport me to the hospital and they wanted me to stay overnight but I was there in a new city at a conference. When I reached I had one of the keg techs at work due an EKG and the rate was sinus, with pecs  and prolonged  qt interval. I have not had the rate exceed 120 since I've been back bu...

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
