Prolonged T wave or QT wave

Hi all been a while since I have been on here...I guess I was pacing right along and lost touch....

Well I have a question if anyone can help.....Went into Emerge two weeks ago because I had a sinus infection and while there because of my cardiac history they did an ECG (l received a dual chamber pacemaker in June of 2012). When the ER. Dr. looked at the read out he said everything looked good to him and said the blood work they drew did have an elevated white blood cell count so I was fighting an infection and from my other symptoms I more than likely had a case of sinusitious (sinus infection) so he gave me a script for antibiotics and I thought that would be the end of things.....Last week my family Dr. 's office called and told me that they had a concern with my ECG reading the nurse told me that I was showing a prolonged T wave....

I have an appointment on the 28th of October to see my family Dr. to discuss this.

Anyone happen to know what it could possibly mean?

Thank you for reading my post.

Two Different things

Prolonged QT is different from a prolonged T.  You should Google them & read about it.  The T wave follows the very big, tall QRS complex that is the contraction of the venrtricles.  The T wave is a rather shallow hump on the base line of the trace folllwimg the QRS.  It is the time durig which the heart is electreically resetting itself for the next beat.

If the Q-T is prolonged, it means that the distance (TIME) between the start of the QRS (Beginning of the ventricles contracting) & the start of the heart resetting itself is longer than normal & can be a serious problem that catches the attention of Cardios.  A prolonged T wave has other significance that can mean a variety of things.  It needs more evaluation.

Google is your best bet for a more detailed dsiscussion of the two issues.

Thank you Donor....It is a prolonged T wave that seems to be the issue....I think I may have had a typo on my original post....I have Googled the significance if the prolonged T wave but didn't find any helpful information in my query....however now with your kind explanation I have a better understanding as to what I need to look at....Thank you again.

We have odd ekg's, what looks red flag for a regular patient can be perfectly normal to someone paced.

Ty Tracey for your comment and support....I have moved so getting established with a new family Dr. and referrals etc....I am back in the area where I receive my device so I am confident it will not be too long until I am referred to a cardiologist....my former Cardiologist in this area retired last year.
