My annaul check in!

Hi everyone, I rarely get in here nowadays, I sort of forget I have a pm until I get my letter to go for my annual checkup, which is next month. Well, what a year it has been, I cannot believe it is 7 years since this quivering wreck of a woman found this site and poured her heart out, terrified of what life had to offer. Well...... when I hit 60 the kids took me on a road trip to US and Canada, it was awesome. I've had a busy year this year, started a flower business, had a grandson, my husb...

Merlin EX1150 alarms

I recently got my merlin wireless transmitter. It randomly alarms during the night. Someone told me it could be sleep apnea? I didn't think this machine monitors that??

Swelling

For everyone who's had a subpectoral pacemaker implant, how long did it take for the swelling to go away? I've seen some progress in only a week post implant but I assume there will probably be some residual swelling for maybe a month? Also, device probably settles in a tad deeper over time?

Help!

Hi there, I'm a 40 yr old female and have severe bradycardia. My resting pulse is 38bpm and it drops to 31 at night. My rhythm is normal. I'm knackered all the time (and have no reason to be... I work part time, no kids, lovely life....). I've always had a slow pulse but it seems to be getting lower. I'm fit, but no athlete! My doctor has suggested a pacemaker, she thinks it will help my symptoms. Anybody else had a similar experience they are willing to share?... Thank you in advance

New name for heart block?

Hi all, am wondering if any of you have heard the name Bifasicular Block instead of complete heart block? Saw my EP and this is what he wrote on my paperwork along with SSS/sinus Brady and Tachycardia Brady. Wondering if he is just using these terms to get my insurance company to pay for tests he has ordered. My diagnosis has always been 3 rd degree heart block or complete heart block. PS? I feel fine..😀😀

Bumpy Roads

Hello. I'm new to the website and so glad I found it. I wish doctor's would address the emotional side as well as the medical issues. I have a question. While driving over bumpy roads my pacemaker goes into high gear and my heart rate goes up. Does anyone else have this happen to them? Thanks.

IT HAS A NAME!

Thank you to everyone (Angry Sparrow, Grateful Heart, Ellen, Donr, PJinSC, Sunny; hope I didn't forget anyone) who helped me with my recent problem of getting jolted by my PM even though I don't have a defibrillator!

Some of you suggested a diagnosis but I actually have a name for it: DIAPHRAGMATIC STIMULATION. As you thought, it is, indeed, a lead touching the diaphragm. There is no need to worry about it occurring while sitting up, just while horizontal. It is happening to me now...

Things to deal with

Did anyone experience a cough after the pm was inserted? Also how about a tightness in the throat and a feeling of discomfort upon taking a deep breath? Just had mine inserted 10 days ago. Am a very active person and this is somewhat bothersome.

Accelerometer v Minute ventilation Rate Response S

rdman in a recent post touches on this subject and I don't have the background knowledge to add anything useful to golden_ snitch's comments but I do have a great interest in the choice of Pacemaker for active people

- I am very active as a runner and cyclist and currently have a Medtronic Advisa

- because I am fed up with having to tap the PM / stand on the pedals etc when cycling because of the limitations of the Medtronic accelerometer , I am thinking of switching t...

Update to 2013-09-15 Post

(To further clarify my 2113-09-15 post, the RF ablation for the intermittent atrial flutter that was performed in 2009 also resulted in an apparent over-burn 1st degree AV Block.)

Subsequent to my 2013-09-15 post, one year later, I again mentioned the Boston Scientific pacemaker (BS) with Minute Ventilator (MV) sensor to my E/P. Since he had poo-pooed it in 2013, I was very surprised when he now enthusiastically endorsed the MV sensor feature for my active life and agreed to schedul...

Universal Studios - Don't Ask, Don't Tell

If you go to Universal Studios and desire to ride ANY rides, do not let them know that you have a pacemaker. I took my children there (Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida) last week for spring break and they were banned from ALL rides when the park discovered they both had pacemakers. I hope sharing this helps someone else, it was devastating to my children who had looked forward to riding the rides at Harry Potter World for months. Ironically, at Disney in Florida we have requested and receiv...

Heart Block

I have been with a St. Jude 2210, 2 lead PM since 2012. I had quintuple CABG in 2009. I have always been prompt with my Cardio visits/appts. Everything is good, I guess. My general question is:

I had a PM installed due to "heart block" (signal going from top to bottom/ atrium to ventricle) Is it possible the the scaring of the quintuple CABG caused the heart block? I mean, scar tissue would inhibit or even interrupt the electrical signals of the heart? I have been reading up on th...

Replaced lead

All went well with my pm revision, they untangled it and moved it over a bit and sewed it securely in place, on testing the lead it had 2 years life left so a new lead was put in and I now have up to 8 years before I need a battery change. I am so pleased with the care I got from the time I got to the ward to the time I left, everyone was so kind and caring. I told them about my bad experience last time so they took extra care and gave me extra sedation so it was like others have said, it was...
