I missed my 1 Year Anniversary

To anyone newbies out there worrying, depressed, and wondering if things will ever "be normal" again, I would just like to say that I just missed my April 25th anniversary....that is to say...I don't think about my PM every waking minute and that is because things are back to normal. Just providing a little boost to someone who might need one.

Beeping

I have a Advisa DR MI SureScan Medtronic PM implanted about 10 weeks ago sub pectoral for bradycardia and sick sinus syndrome. My atriium lead is working 98.7% of the time and the ventricle around 15%. He increased the voltage for the atrium lead when I was at my appt.
My pm made a two-tone single beep this morning while I was still in bed reading. This is the 3rd time since implantation.
Anybody know anything about this? I will send CareLink today with an email to my dr's office...

New leaderless vs traditional PM

I have had a symptomless form of Afib for 6 years and my heart heat will take a 2-3 second break a few hundred times a day. Recently I passed out so the cardiologist recommended a PM. When I went for a second opinion, I was told I was a good candidate to go into a trial for the new St Jude leadless PM. While only in the trial stage in the US, I understand this has been approved in several European countries. Have others looked into the leaderless PM verse the traditional? Which did you c...

Increased need for sleep

I had a pacemaker implanted 2 1/2 weeks ago and am going back to a desk job tomorrow. I feel better than I have in ages.

I feel ready and am tired of being home but I have been taking a nap every day and still sleeping well at night. Is it typical to have an increased need for sleep? Has this been a problem for others?

Any comments would be appreciated.

What a way to be diagnosed...

Yesterday was hubby's birthday, the sun was shining and it should have been a happy day.... and it was till the postman came!!!! I open it to find a copy of a letter sent from the hospital to my GP, calmly announcing I don't have sleep apnoea (lovely Consultant told me this at appointment in sleep clinic) but have heart issues - a fast sinus rate and ventricular standstill and he is arranging for me to be fitted with a pacemaker "in the near future"!!!!
Good Grief!!! talk about a mean way o...

question

It has been a long time since I've been on, had my pacemaker for two years in June seems like all is ok check-ups are fine from what they say and how I feel ,just wanted to ask if anyone has throbbing in your neck area? I do also take a beta blockers to slow my beats and of course the pm to keep it at 60 bpm When this happens I'm not pushing myself or working hard...

Just got news I need a pacemaker

Hello ,
I am a 45 yr old woman who had a monitor on due to extra beats , turns out - the extra beats are not the problem ....my heart keeps stopping for 4/5 seconds and re starting . I was told on Thursday I need a pacemaker .. I don't know what type or why my heart is stopping ? The Dr didn't say if I had heart disease or if it is congenital , just I need a pacemaker .
I suppose I just would like to know if anyone else has had this experience .. I realise I am lucky to have discov...

Decisions

Hi there, I am wondering if anyone has any input/experience with a decision that I have to make:

I received my PM in Dec when my ablation for SVT caused a heart block. For awhile I was going in to see the EP every few weeks to have him tweak the PM as my heart still felt funny. It got to the point where he said I was doing so well that he believed I probably wouldn't even need the PM in a year. The last time I went in as I was feeling funny again - and yes, funny doesn't describe a...

Another Divine Appointment

I am a very fortunate woman. My husband was seated on a plane right next to the Medtronics Chief Cardiologist over North America and Europe just after I got my device. He was able to ask the guy lots of questions and got great answers and advice.

On Sunday, we were on a flight together and this time I was seated next to a man that's a military nurse in the reserves and also used to be a Medtronics EP rep. (He's now working for a laser company.)

He gave me a really good e...

4 years on...

Hopefully everyone is doing well, it's been some time since I ducked my head in and it's great to see some of the familiar people who are the stalwarts of this wonderful site - not to mention all the newbies who have joined. It's literally getting to the stage where I totally forget I have the ICD (obstructive cardiomyopathy - near death experience got me inducted into this wonderful club!) the first couple of years were tough with the device firing off (character building!) getting the correct...

Student Illustration project

My name is Oliver. I'm 21 years old and I'm currently a second year Illustration student at Norwich University of the Arts, UK and I'm embarking on doing a project which is related to my condition. I suffer with Congential Heart Block and I'm fitted with a heart pacemaker. I want to create a conceptually illustrative book which encompasses how a pacemaker works and how it feels to have one implanted inside you, aimed at pacemaker patient's families and the general public. As research for this pr...

Pacemaker Teardown

Below is the address of a YouTube video of someone tearing apart an old Pacemaker with a single lead. Since it is a rectangular model and the IC chips in it are older I assume it's an older model. Actually the IC chips are ancient - 1975 era which is equivalent to Cuneiform writing as far as IC chips go.

One interesting point the narrator makes is the RFI part isn't activated until it is turned on by a heavy magnet. If the newer models of pacemakers follow the same pattern, it me...
