scheduled pm next week and have questions

I am scheduled to receive a pacemaker next week to control my bradycardia and related symptoms. I am 45 years old. I am married with children and I am very nervous about the procedure and would like to know what to expect the first few days. Any advice is appreciated.

article on preventative icd's for LVEF

article from American College of Cardiology. Strong argument for preventative icds

New research based on data from the ICD Registry and Get With The Guidelines–Heart Failure shows higher rates of survival after three years for a group of patients hospitalized with heart failure with a left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of 35 percent or less who received a prophylactic implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), when compared to no ICD. Sleep Position

Hi Everyone,

Just checking with a concern. I am on my 9th week after the PM install. I like to sleep on my left side. I know when I sleep in this position I do put side pressure on my PM. Over time can this cause PM lead issue etc with the pacemaker? Has anyone had issues like this?

Still feeling tired

Hello all.

I have now had my pacemaker fitted a month ago i still have a lot of soreness and sometimes pain around the site of the implant is this
normal after four weeks. Also i experience tightness across my chest.
I ended up in hospital a week ago due to this and a fast heart rate after tests doctors said the tests showed positive and let me return home. The pacemaker saved my life after having it fitted for third degree heart block. My tablets of bisoprolol was increase...

Cardioversion

Had cardioversion this afternoon and it seem to do the trick with flutter.at first and they resent PM then they sent me home. Now I am home and heart rate seems to go from 75 to 110 and back with no apparent reason, however no other side effects. I called in to duty Doctor and he had me check blood pressure,it is okay 130/85.He said the treatment sometimes takes a bit for heart to
adjust and see how it goes until tomorrow and call in - again no feelings of faint etc. Has anyone had similar...

Pacemaker protection

Hi all ...

Two weeks ago, I was on a heart event monitor (eCardio) to see if my afib went away after a maze procedure and heart valve replacement (mitral, aortic) in January, 2014. The monitor reported a 7 pause to my cardiologist; he insisted that I go into emergency and so I did. After three days, I very reluctantly I agreed to have a pacemaker (Medronic, MRI safe). I have buyer's remorse.

In four weeks, I am going to Spain to run with the bulls in Pamplona; I have done t...

private messages

Has anyone else been having trouble with this? I sent a private message to someone and my email said I received one back, but when I go into my messages there is nothing there. also, some comments were deleted from one of the last postings that I commented on. And they were not in any way inappropriate.
Any site managers have an idea?
thank you.

Difficult decision

The time has come. Retirement at age 54. Had massive heart attack last June which resulted in CHF, then had v tach which required the ICD.

Last few months I have had extreme chest pain at the end of the day along with SOB. Only happens on work days. Weekends are fine. Also had instances where my heart rate went to 130 while at rest. Resting rate is usually low 60's and I can't even get it to 115 during strenuous exercise. I felt better when I went back to work last September than...

Cable TV HE & Satellites

Hi all. I am one week old yet in my first PM. I think I am ready to go back to work in a week's time but in limited mobility. However, my work, my life's business actually, are two: TV broadcast station, and cable TV operator. Two which are separate but I used to split my working days visiting both.
Questions:
1) I frequent more in working in the building where the broadcast station is. Am I safe? I do work in another room, but antennas are everywhere, TOC is nearby and we are operat...

Young Fit and Healthy but Still have PM

ANYONE ELSE LIKE THIS ON HERE?

I'm 27 had the pacemaker for a year and it is still a huge mystery as to why I needed it. I just know that it had to be put in to stop serious slow bradycardia.

I am fit, very healthy eater and freaking confused as to how I ended up with this PM. It would be great to hear other similar stories.

My heart is fit and can handle long runs / used to before pacemaker! I'm about to go for a checkup and would like to have an idea about wha...

Small World!

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all are doing well today. Except for the people on this site, I do not know anybody in "real life" with a PM. Last night while grocery shopping I ran into a friend's mom whom I hadn't seen in awhile. I asked her how my friend was doing (I have not had any contact with her in over 3 years!) and she said good. We got to talking and the conversation turned to my health and my sudden need for a PM. She then told me my friend found out while having surgery for so...

Hi everyone,

I just want to say thank you all for information and support that we provide for each other each and every day. I don't post often, but I do follow the recent posts and so many of you are so full of helpful information and word of encouragement and support. Tomorrow I marks my one year anniversary with my pacemaker. In the beginning I didn't know how was going to make it one day, let alone one year. It was a tough road, but today I am thankful for where I am with my h...

New pacemaker

Hi everyone. I have had my pacemaker about 3 weeks now. Started with LBBB and progressed from there. Felt like someone put a bag of fireworks in my chest and lit them and felt like a growling feeling in the middle. Heart rate was in the 30/40 range. Had been taking Cardizen, wore heart monitors, went for a chemical stress test and had to be sent by EMS to ER. Cardiologist referred me to EP doctor. Went in for the EP study and ablations. He found Sick Sinus so didn't do ablation and scheduled me...

causes for V-Tach

I had my ICD implanted in February 2014. Recently, I have been having numerous V-Tach episodes. This is the reason I had the ICD implanted. I am taking 120mg sotalol twice a day but the V-Tach episodes are getting more frequent. There is no rhyme or reason to why they start. I have been walking, running, eating dinner, walking to the car, sitting in front of the TV, typing on the computer and bam I go into V-Tach. The ICD paces me out very quickly, but it's not pleasant for several minutes...

actual size

Hello guys. I recently got my pacemaker. I have a St. Jude Pacemaker, model 5826. Anyone else with the same? The reason I'm asking is because I thought, or at least how the doctor describe it, the pacemaker was suppose to be 2 inches long and 2 inches in hight. I was showering the other day and it felt more like 4 inches wide and hight to. I don't know if this is the correct size, but I was expecting something a lot smaller. Its causing me some anxiety. Any input anyone? Thanks.

First days

Hello my friends,

I am new here! I just have implanted an ICD 3 days ago because Ventricular Tachycardia . It is a totally different experience for me. I am 35 years old and I had a heart attack when I was 29 when I have implanted one stent.
Its nice find a place with persons who had similar experiences and still enjoying the beauty of the life. I think persons like us are blessed because We can understand how precious is the life.
By the time I was 7 years old, my grandfa...
