The 17th of Jan marked 1 year with the PM...so far..so good...The meds I'm taking seem to have controlled the a-fib episodes, ( each 3 month PM "interrogation" has shown improvement ) and I feel lucky & blessed to have had such a good life with the help of the PM. I want to says thanks to all of you for helping me thru a rough beginning...I truly appreci...

Initial exam

I'm trying to gather all the info I can. I recently went to a cardiologist for a routine physical. My father died with heart failure at 54 so I'm concerned. I'm 68 and have never had heart problems. I exercise daily and have good health routines. During the exam I was informed of a low pulse rate. My pulse has always been low and I attributed that to exercise. He ordered a EKG with turned out normal. He than suggested a halter monitor for 24 hrs. which I did. I turned it in and a few days later...

For those of you struggling

Life is precious and can be cut short at any time, any age. We all know this, but sometimes we need a stark reminder. Healthy people, no Pacemakers, no ICD's, no health issues to worry about, just living life.... can be cut short at any time.

One of my sons' friends was crossing the road in the darkness of the early morning, on his way to work was struck and killed by a car. He was 23 years old. He leaves behind a young wife and 2 small babies. It was a terrible, tragic acciden...

Battery change & new model?

Hi All; I just had a battery change. But I now have a question. The new model of the pacemaker is different than my original one (smaller), and has a different model name, so I changed the name to the newer model, by updating my info. on this site. But the implant date confuses me. Do I put the new date (01/08/14), or do I keep the date of the original implant (07)? Thanks

Seatbelt shoulder strap

I just had a battery replacement last week. I was told not to wear the shoulder part of my seatbelt while driving until I am healed. Shouldn't Doctors automatically provide us some document after our surgery that we could show to police officers when/if we are pulled over for what LOOKS like we don't have our seatbelt on (even when we DO have the lap part on)?

Nervous

Trading snow and 28 degrees for sun and upper 70's and the Arizona Rock and Roll 1/2 this weekend. After getting hauled off to medical during my last attempt at a half I'm a little anxious. Please keep your fingers crossed that I can stay vertical during this one! I've only had the pm a few months and am not as confident as I will be once I've grown more used to it.

Stents

Cardiac cath three years ago showed 50 percent blockage. Does anyone know if a stent can be done in someone with a pacemaker?. Does angioplasty affect the leads or device? I'm fearing the worse when I have to go for another cardiac cath to see if in the past three years the blockage has increased and the need for stenting. Suffering terrible shortness of breath which pulmonary doctor does not think lung related despite asthma and copd. The ball is now in the cardiologist's court although it...

shocked

Well, now I know what it feels like to be shocked. I've had my pacemaker for four years, but this week was the first time I experienced that particular aspect. Was shocked once on Sat, then 2 quick shocks on Monday. Off to the ER for a little help, where I was told it was doing exactly what it should, and no, they did not think they would turn it off. Rapid heart rate. Had no idea it treated that.

Electric Motor restrictions

On Christmas eve my husband was the proud recipient of a St. Judes dual wire pacer, exactly like the one I got in September.

As he is more active, we are trying to figure out his use of electric yard trimmers. There are some restrictions posted in places on ones with gasoline engines, but he uses electric hedge trimmers. His is Black and Decker hedge trimmers are 3.3 AMPs, 60 Mhz and 2800 CPM on plate. Any thoughts on these and the pacer.

He also has some cutters tht are 4...
