Device deactivation

Since I've seen this topic being discussed here several times, I thought some of you might be interested in an article that has been published recently, it's titled: "Features and Outcomes of Patients Who Underwent Cardiac Device Deactivation". You can find it at:

pacemaker

I, too received a pacemaker in 2008 and have experienced all of the anxiety, fear, the ups and downs, the terrible affects of the medication for high blood pressure, irregular heart beats. I am thankful that it saved my life and has helped the other organs in my body to receive the oxygen and etc. to keep them healthy. I continued to mow my yard, till my garden, exercise, and all the things that I did before I received it. I do everything in moderation, eat a low salt, low cholestrol, low acid,...

Not sure what to do

Good Morning,
I am not sure what to do and am wondering if anyone else had the same issues. I went to the dr a few years ago because I had been getting dizzy spells. Of course they checked my heart and did an MRI if my brain. At that time they said I had a low heart rate and I had to do the 21 day monitor. Long story short they decided to recheck me every 6 months. The dizzy spells come and go and I also suffer from migraines. The dizzy spells could be vertigo and have something to do with...

Vasovagal syncope

Hi all

I have posted on this site before but wanted to share where I am now and ask some questions. Apologies in advance as this is a long post!!

Background

I will try and explain it as best I can and I think the easiest way for me to do this is to bullet point information in order to give you the background.

• I have had this for numerous years (at least 30).

• I was initially diagnosed as Epileptic and put on Carbamaz...

Hello all, does anybody know what kind of over-the-counter cold/flu medicines that are safe to take if I have a-fib and arrythmia. I currently am not taking any meds, just supplements (Magnesium & Taurine). I appreciate any responses. Thank you.

One Year Ago Today

I became a member of the pacemaker club when I received "Sparky" due to 3rd degree heart block at age 57. I had entered the ER in "grave condition" (terrible choice of words there) after several episodes of fainting spells and slight chest discomfort. No apparent cause; just "happened". I spent the night with wires and tubes everywhere, eyes wide open, watching the heart rate monitor dip deep into the twenties. With a crash cart hooked up to me all night, fortunately they never had to fire up th...

which direction?

Hi All,

So doc says he is fitting a pacemaker on the 18th dec. First he said he is fitting a meditronic advisa then he quoted on ensura. i think he did this because i am not on medical aid and thinks money is a problem. regardless of cost is there a difference( my understanding is ensura is the basic version of advisa). Also being young (31) and active should i consider sub-pectoral implant?

username

I decided to drop my last initial on my username when I found out one of our students where I work had a pacemaker implanted. It makes me feel rather vulnerable should he decide to join this site. Hopefully us geezers will turn him off. I have learned over the years kids can use lots of things against their teachers.
On another topic I finally got confirmation that my ventricle lead is actually implanted. I love how they say "so don't worry". I get pains, spasms, tightness that I never had...

Nervous no more!

My pacemaker was installed 12:30 pm Monday December 2nd. I believe it is an early Christmas present, installed by Dr. Wong, Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wa.

I don't believe I have ever been as nervous or anxious for anything. Was given concious sedation drugs and was listening to all going on around me by the doctor and his staff. I was amazed at the discipline maintained by the doctor and his staff. Listening to the Medtronic's representative participate in t...

ACA (or so they say..)

Upcoming Colonoscopy

I had a consult today with a different Gastroenterologist regarding an upcoming colonoscopy. He came recommended by my NP, Cardio and a friend of mine.

Much to my surprise, he showed great interest in my ICD. He wanted to know the history for it and was very knowledgeable regarding the device. In my 5 years of hosting an ICD, this was the first time I had a Doctor who was not a Cardiologist show such interest. We also talked about the ground plate placement in case electrocautery...

Going with the flow

I have read most of your post about different issues that all of us have been having. What it comes down to is that every human has at one point in their life had some sort of heart problem from child to adult. when it chooses to rear its ugly head and why it picks a that time no one knows not even you doctor don't let them fool you
each body is different, and everyone has a different style of living like, Joe Blow loves to drink beer and smoke,, and Betty Boopers eats greens and walks 5 mi...

Hello all

It will be a month since "Gizmo" joined my life. Having a PM is something I would have never dreamed of needing. I've been fighting this heart thing for 3 years, trying to get the doctors to figure out what's going on with my body. Every time I would have an episode of a heart rate of 50 or less, I could never get to the doctor in time before it passed. So for 3 years they thought it was anxiety. But today I am grateful I'm still here. I have a lot of living to do and I won't go quietly. It's...

What is a reasonable amount of time for a nonemergency, nonurgent callback from the EP office? Going on week 3...left another message today and mentioned that was just really lame. But maybe this is normal?

Need Reassurance

I am suffering from sick sinus syndrome, dysautonomia, mitral valve prolapse with leak, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, suprventicular tachycardia, Long QT (not sure if this is heredity or medicine related), and bigeminy at times.
(The paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, and sick sinus syndrome were diagnosed within the past two years.) I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse 35 years ago, and the dysautonomia 21 years ago.

Because my pulse is now l...

Looking Forward

So, I'm really excited about my first PM check this Thursday. I was just telling my husband it's only in retrospect that I have realized that I am no longer woozy-headed since I received the PM. I simply dismissed that slightly dizzy feeling before but now that I "miss" it I realize what it was. I also had SOB that I denied to myself. I have always been a determined go-getter in life but ignored my body/heart telling me to pay attention. My last faint put a gash in the back of my head Oct....

Discomfort 2 months after pm

Hi, I got a pacemaker on 9/24/13 for bradycardia. Prior to getting the pm I would have recurring pain in left arm and tingling on the left side of face. Several test showed all was well, they found no problems when I would go to er. After seeing my cardo doc and telling something was wrong he did find that I had bradycardia, hence the pm. Left arm pain went away. Now they closed me with the super glue. I found one stitch last week and tried to pull but it seems pretty tight. Since I did tha...
