Cold medicines

Hello all, does anybody know what kind of over-the-counter cold/flu medicines that are safe to take if I have a-fib and arrythmia. I currently am not taking any meds, just supplements (Magnesium & Taurine). I appreciate any responses. Thank you.

Delsym cough syrup for a cold/cough w/o any problems & I am on Coumadin. I also take Mucinex (which is in this cough cough syrup so didn't take together) w/o problems for sinus issues. I believe my Afib could care less except I wouldn't take a stimulant type of med. It's the Coumadin I worry about. If you don't/won't ask your doc aske the Pharmacist. That is what I did & he steered me to the Delsym 'cause I wanted to take the syrup with the least amount of stuff in it. Look at the labels & discuss with Dr or Pharmacist.

By the way, I have a PM with AV node ablation so that helps.

Hope this helps,

Just want to tell you all what my doc said when I had a cold and fever. I was worried about my heart rate, that was up and I was worried I was in an arrhythmia.. He said you can expect your heart rate to increase about 10 beats per minute for every degree over normal.

So I was fine, just really sick.

takes a lot of beating ! It should relieve your symptoms and side-effects from it are very rare.

We are all different. Most heart meds don't work well with most cold medicines so if you aren't on any heart meds theoretically you can take whatever you want. Sudafed (decongestant in most cold meds) often has caffeine and can speed up the heart, if you are sensitive to it. I am, so I do not take sudafed.

Could you tell me what the amount of taurine and Magnesium you take and how often. I am trying not to take BB and blood thinners.

Ask

Go to the pharmacist that has all your medications and ask. I cannot take anything for a cold with the exception of one spray of nasal spray in one side of my nose before I g to bed so I can sleep.

I have always been told a cold will run its course easier without medication. I had a cold three weeks after my ICD implant and it was gone in three days while the rest of my family took over a week.
