My pacemaker was installed 12:30 pm Monday December 2nd. I believe it is an early Christmas present, installed by Dr. Wong, Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wa.
I don't believe I have ever been as nervous or anxious for anything. Was given concious sedation drugs and was listening to all going on around me by the doctor and his staff. I was amazed at the discipline maintained by the doctor and his staff. Listening to the Medtronic's representative participate in the settings and the coordination from the doctor to him was impressive.
It was only 30 minutes or less, I felt different, more at ease and my lovely wife stated my face had a flesh color. The overnight stay in the hospital ICU could not have been better, The day and night nurses were extremely professional, answering any and all questions.
Was released for home early the next morning 9:30 am, given instructions on keeping my left arm in a sling for 2 days, don't extend my left to 90 degrees and lift no more than 10 pounds with my left arm over the next 3 weeks.
I did have a mishap when sitting in my chair, slippled with a jolt and was concerned with possibly knocking something out out place. I checked several time with my blood pressure kit and my heart rate was maintaining the new set reat of 60 beats per minute.
All and all if I were to rate the experience from 1 being low to 10 being high, at this time I would give it a 10 +.
Being nervous was natural, however the postings from this page prior to getting the implant was very comforting. Thank you to all who participate.

Good for you

Glad it's gone so good for you.
My cardiologist told me to take it easy for the first 90 days. Give the body time enough to grow around the PM site and the leads. Three weeks seems fast. Of course I was throwing 90 pound pieces of wood so I guess he had to sit on me. You may want to check on how soon you can return to strenuous exercise.
Am very happy for you. It's always good to hear positive comments.

What a great summary of your experience! I choose to be sound "asleep" during my EP study. You were very brave and it seems involved with your recovery heeding the doctors orders. I found it took me a good week to recover, then another week or so to get back to regular activities. I am 4 weeks post implant tomorrow and have my first pm check in the morning. Take it easy and welcome to the other side!
