God Bless the NHS.

In the words of Spike Milligan..."We haven't got a plan,so nothing can go wrong".My plan was retire in November 2011 and do all the things I had planned. Up to now I haven't got round to any of 'em.
I said to my wife on Friday last, jokingly,"well now that's all over (last spell in hospital) ,I wonder what's next"? Didn't have long to wait. But I digress, here's the plot to date.

February 2012, collapsed,3 weeks in hospital and a pacemaker.
April 2012, massive heart attack,...

Some high tech info

I just want to share this with all of you in case you haven't seen it.
I remember our dear past member Electric Frank had to design his own EKG machine for his own use. In the near future, we can all have one at home by using our phone.
Check this out. Very interesting

Advised to have a Crtd

Hello. I would just like to introduce myself, and say I am glad to have found this site. I am hoping for advice and support in an upcoming decision to have a Crtd implanted.
I live in Ireland, am fifty seven years old and six months ago was diagnosed with non ischemic cardiomyopathy, and an ejection fraction of 10. That has improved with medication and now my EF is 25. I also was diagnosed in 2008 with left bundle branch block and hypertension.
I have been advised by my cardiologist...

Week after CRT-D

I posted last week that I was getting a new device. I am still a little sore but I do feel so much better! The last device they didn't tell me the settings so I asked this time and I will never go below 60 BPM and get zapped if over 190.It should be good for 6-8 years running 24/7. They put two new wires in so have to be careful for 6 weeks as to not pull them out. I had said about my CHF and the 300 mgs of sodium.per day. For breakfast the nurse brought a lot of stuff with too much sodium. As w...

First ICD Clinic appointment

I went in for my first ICD checkup today. The Dr. answered my questions, however, I would love to hear the thoughts from the people on this site. I truly value your opinion and while I have only been here about two weeks, you have all been so helpful.

My ICD is located very close to under my arm. This makes it diffcult to move my left arm over to my right side. The Dr. said that yes it was a little more to than left than he would like, it would require another operation which wo...

magnetic necklace fastening

Hello, I'm not actually the person with the pacemaker..it's my elderly mother-in-law so I have joined this forum on her behalf. I just bought a magnetic necklace fastener for her as a present as she has arthritis and has difficulty with such things. I noticed that other people have mentioned the effect on the PM, and I really don't want her to use it if it has even the slightest chance of affecting her. Does anyone know for sure that she shouldn't use it? Any advise would be appreciated. Th...

Hard to navigate

Hi All,
Just wanting to say, I find this forum very hard to navigate. I am on several forums for health issues and this one tops the list for difficulty on finding info. The search function helps somewhat, but I find the site lacks personality.

This site is very important to many of us here and I would like to see it improved!

504 accomidations

My daughter, age 6, was diagnosed with stage 3 heart block in July and received a pacemaker. I'm trying to set up accomidations at school for her but I'm not sure what she will need because this is all so new for us. Any suggestions? The school is less than helpful and is even fighting us on installing an air conditioner in her classroom to prevent her from becoming overheated or dehydrated. Are there any laws protecting children with heart conditions as there are for children with diabetes?...
