At recent angiogram my doctor looked up at the screen and said:"there's a lot of metalwork in there." He was, I assumed, referring to the two damaged leads which had been replaced but not removed on a previous occasion.
As a distraction, I asked him how many leads he could fit into a vein.He replied:(smartarse). "How many would you like? I could get another pair in this side and then start on the left."
But. What's the truth of it? Is it OK to leave leads in and how many can actually...

Hi ,
Went for my pacemaker check today, and everything looks good from what I am told. But, I went in there with a concerned question of why is it that when I lay down, the pacermaker doesn't fit in place as good. It seems to flip a little and its a weird feeling. I was told there's nothing to worry about and is normal. Also, it was mentioned to me how some people actually play with it and can flip it which ends up with a problem with the leads. I couldn't be it and never heard tha...

Hi Mrs TM here, on his behalf!
Surgery didn't go quite to plan. Infection! Pacemaker moved slightly and pacing lowered to 50. Anti-biotics for the infection and we have to kep a close eye for fever or swelling, if there is any he must come back as an emergency. If he copes with the new pacing the surgeon intends to remove the pacemaker and leads under general anaesthetic after Christmas. He is stayng in hospital overnight - the morphine has knocked him out!! Will keep in touch.

Hi everyone,
I am a newby and have just joined the pacemaker club. I am 37 and I have had heart problems all of my life. My doctor has suggested a pacemaker but that it is my decision. He is 50/50 about it and I am really confused. The procedure is scheduled for next week and I am feeling very anxious about this. Any advice would be really helpful. The reason he has suggested it is he thinks I may have bradycardia as I have had a lot done to my heart (5 heart procedures) and my heart rate...

Hi & Welcome.
I've noticed a lot of new members recently and when I first received my pacemaker 8 yrs ago I had a zillion questions. I found this article and I post it from time to time as I found it helped me a lot. It's a long read, but full of really good information.
If I remember correctly, I got it either from WebMD or the Mayo Clinic website. Like I mentioned - It's a long read, but it just might help you feel a bit better :)

You'll be fine and will have them laughing in the OR.
Take care,

Hi all,
I just thought I let you know how I'm doing on my 8th day post PM implantation. Actually the procedure went much easier than what I thought without any complications. The dressing came off 3 days ago and now I'm able to shower, yeah!!!.
My symptoms like SOB,palpitations, tiredness, headaches eventhough my EP did not think were related to my 1st to 2nd degree HB are gradually disappearing.
They adjusted my lower rate from 60 to 40 and I!m sleeping a lot better without slee...

Hi, want to pick someones brains. I had my PM fitted in February, in April I had a heart attack which neccesitated being defibrillated 3 times to get me back to life, successfully apparantly!.. The question that bothered me is.... how come the electric shock from the defib. didn't do some damage to the PM? Does the PM turn itself off if overloaded that way? What would happen if the same thing occurs again? The PM is a Sorin Reply DR,dual lead, and I also wondered why I didn't get upgraded to an...

Hello all,
I would like to take a few minutes to wish everyone a very merry christmas & a happy & healthy new year.
I know it's not quite christmas yet but, my daughter & I are leaving on Saturday for a 12 day south pacific cruise & we wont be spending too much time on the computer as the internet on board is S L O W & at $1 per minute is a little expensive for my liking.
So, merry christmas

frank, this is for you,
at the end of the story, the old man told the very naked girls that he was going to feed the aligators in the lake that they were swimming in.
what would you do if you were the swimmers???
If it was me (which it wouldn't be) i would jump out quick smart... then the old man would get an eyeful wouldn't he :-)
Any Advice

Hi guys!! I have a question. Sunday I was sitting here playing a game on my computer when I got this dull pain in the left part of my chest (mid part of my breast). It didn't last very long, maybe 30 seconds or so and then it went away. Just long enough to for me to go 'hmmm what was that all about?'. Well, then not long after that here came another pain, same spot but this one radiated to my back in between my shoulder blades. Still not lasting any longer than the last one before it went away....

Hi Everyone,
I had my pacemaker put in on 12/6/12 and during the procedure they punctured my lung. Did anyone else have soreness in their lungs or a punctured lung after their implant? Also I love to sew and it’s Christmas so I am already behind on everything, how to sewing machines affect the pm? I always knew I’d need a pm, just wasn’t ready for it at 45.
Not such a happy christmas

for our family this year. My lovely 46 year old son-in-law was killed in a motorbike race on Saturday. My daughter Jo and their beautiful daughters Catilin 19 and Nikita 17 are heartbroken as we all are. Its a reminder to us all how fragile life is and to make the most of every day. Best wishes to you all this christmas and please keep our family in your prayers.
Love Jane

Pookie here.
I've been a member here since late 2005 and until several months ago was a VERY active member; almost every day. With that being said, I am going to try and make more regular appearances.
Sometimes life throws us curve balls and we get off track...well, I miss all of my friends from here, so be warned ----- I'm back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes in life the ones who are always strong need a break/rest and support too. A lot has happened to me...

Hi Mr. TM,
I'll be thinking of you this Friday and hope it all goes well, with the surgery.
I'll be travelling most of the day on Friday and won't have much access to my computer.
Can't wait to hear from you after the procedure, let us all know, keep that medical staff on their toes.
Take care,
Casper

An elderly man in Louisiana had owned a large farm for several years.
He had a large pond in the back. It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some apple and peach trees.
One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over.
He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit.
As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting an...
