Punctured Lung

Hi Everyone,
I had my pacemaker put in on 12/6/12 and during the procedure they punctured my lung. Did anyone else have soreness in their lungs or a punctured lung after their implant? Also I love to sew and it’s Christmas so I am already behind on everything, how to sewing machines affect the pm? I always knew I’d need a pm, just wasn’t ready for it at 45.

Glad you found us! But sorry you had complications already. It doesn't happen that often, but if you do a search of past posts you'll find you're not the only one. Generally it means healing takes a little longer. There's no reason not to expect a full recovery, but take it easy and don't stress yourself over the holidays and getting it all done. Healing is job 1 right now.

Sewing machines, along with about any other home electronic you can name, have no affect on a pm. Go ahead and sew!

I'm 46, but I'm on my 4th pm now, so really, you're getting a late start :oP If you have any questions at all, please don't be shy. You may feel like the baby in the cardiologist's office but there are a lot of us here in the same boat. Know you're not alone.

Thanks for the spelling error fix and the advice for sewing I'm so excited going to Joanne's today to get material. I have a 19 year old at home and she and the 13 year are great helpers. It's hard to sit still, I'm so used to being active, however, I keep the left arm down. I don't want to tear the leads. Wow 4 pm's. Thanks again for the advice, fix and answer.

arm

I know what you mean about sitting still! Not my forte either. As long as you feel up to it and the dr didn't specifically say not to, you can be active now. Go ahead and take a little walk, see how you feel.

It's important to use your arm, just don't lift anything heavy or raise it above shoulder level. Beyond that, it's not only safe but good to keep it moving. If you keep it too quiet your shoulder can freeze. But go ahead and let the kids wait on you! It's good for them to feel needed and you deserve a bit of pampering.

I have congenital heart block, got my first one at 27. It doesn't slow me down :o)

Collapsed lung?

by kermiehiho - 2012-12-15 02:12:17

Did you have to get a tube inserted to reinflate your lung, or did it resolve itself? I had a collapsed lung just prior to the pm procedure, and the doctor put in a tube attached to a vacuum device to reinflate the lung using air pressure. Even after he took out the tube, I felt pain in that area. I still do, depending on how I stretch. Kind of scary to hear your story; I really would not like to do that tube thing again. MUCH rather have the pm any day. At least I'm unconscious.

No I didn't have a tube inserted, it resolved itself. I was awake during my pm procedure. My lungs are clear now and I'm feeling much better. Sorry to hear about your collapsed lung and yes it did hurt until it all got resolved. Really hope I'm asleep next time they replace it, don't like being awake and feeling everything especially when I started to cough up blood it really freaked me out. I feel great today, just had my wound check and got the ok to fully shower nice to be clean again and the scars not that bad. Merry Christmas everyone, and thank you again for the advice.
