Dodgems/Bumper Cars

Hello fellow pacemaker buddies!

Just out of interest, should people with pacemakers avoid the dodgems/Bumper cars at an amusement park?

Do they have a noticeable effect on the pacemaker?

Just curious, thanks. :)

A couple questions

Hi everyone, its been a while since I,ve posted, but am pleased to say that things have been going well. I got my PM in May and have been back to a "normal" lifestyle for several months.
My first question has to do with the setteling of the device. My doc mention in July that it would take a while for the PM to fully settle in place and for the past 2 or 3 weeks, I've been having really strong sensations of movement to the tune that its shifted down over an inch. Is this ok/normal? I'm 6'...

probably getting a pacemaker next week

I am 45 years old and have just been diagnosed with a heart block. It looks like it will require me to get a pacemaker (just awaiting results of blood tests to rule out Lyme disease and thyroid disfunction). Surgery isn't scheduled yet but I'm anticipating it to occur in the next week or so.

I'd like to get some feedback on what to expect and more importantly some advice on what sort of choices I'll need to make with my doctor over the next few days.

Are there different ty...

For the Brits

Hi!

The UK based heart rhythm charity "Arrhythmia Alliance" has set up a new forum for people with arrhythmias:
http://heartrhythmcharity.healthunlocked.com/

Not that I want to lure people away from this wonderful site, but I thought that it might be nice for the Brits to have a forum where they can find other patients from their country.

Best

dizzy

I received a pacemaker implant about 7 weeks ago. Most of the time I feel fine but every now and then I feel dizzy. I have gone to the doctor twice and the pacemaker is working fine. My blood pressure and pulse have also been fine. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Surgery soon

Hello,
I live in Canada, and anticipate that I will be joining your ranks soon. I am scheduled for a Pacemaker installation on Nov 6th.
At first, when I was told I should have one for my slow heart beat, I did not have much of a problem with the idea. I was looking forward to being able to go for a run again, as I haven't gone since last March, when, while running, I fainted and planted myself face first in the gravel. I am 55, and have had no heart issues to date, but I am told I hav...

Second Surgery

Hi all. Sorry I have taken so long to get on here again. I had my first surgery in June right before my wedding. (quite emergency) My pacemaker was placed just under my skin. After I went back for my check-up I told the doctor the pc was working well but was not happy with the way it looked. I actually had issues with the seat belt rubbing in the car and sleeping on that side at night would move the pc into my collar bone and make it difficult to sleep on that side. He suggested another Doctor i...

Merlin@home Transmitter set up questions

I am 21 and just got my first pacemaker 3 weeks ago tomorrow (wow time flies, I was still thinking it was 2 weeks ago). I got my St. Jude Merlin@home transmitter about a week ago but have been too overwhelmed to set it up. Now I have some questions about this.

My home phone is plugged into the xfinity modem in the living room but I am wondering does the transmitter phone jack need to be plugged in with the phone's jack? It came with a plug that holds two plugs then you plug that into...

TATTOOS AND HEART DISEASE

Does anyone on this site have Congenital Heart Disease and have tattoos? I have been wanting a small tattoo for over a year but I am not sure because i have heard it can cause an infection. I have my ears and belly button pierced and i never had an infection. I always take antibiotic before i go to dentist so that's why I am a little concerned about getting a tattoo.

Anyone with tattoo experience? Let me know

Jenn =)

Young mum

Hello,
Just wondered if there was anyone who could get in touch who is in a similar position to me. I have a second degree heart block and been told I need a pace maker. Yet to be fitted. I was ok with his news until I read all the things that can go wrong! I am reasonably fit and not yet 40 with a young family. Am now unsure of the best course of action. Is here anyone in the uk of a similar age and condition who might like to share their experiences with me. Thanks for reading.

Life is so much better!

I know I rarely check in... My apologies. I'm too busy enjoying Life. After 50 years of never knowing when I would faint next, taking unnecessary meds, and false diagnoses, having the cause actually proven and getting a PM that controls my rate drops totally changed my Life.
I still work full time, garden like crazy, and perform with my husband at coffeehouses and folk music festivals.
I hope pacemaker technologies keep improving, but I can honestly say mine has greatly improved my...

replacement update

Yesterday I posted that some of the symptoms I had before I had the pm & lead replaced were back & I was wondering if I should call the hospital.

Well I called them, and went in to have a check up. they found that the settings were a little wrong for me so they reset them. almost immediately I felt better.

thanks
Katherine
