Merlin and cardiologist oddity

I might have posted this in the wrong forum so here it is here where I think it belongs:
I seem to be in the middle between my cardiologist and Merlin: we just discovered that in electrical work done in renovating our 100 yr old house in May that the workers cut the phone line to the master bedroom where my Merlin montoring unit sits. I clarified with Merlin Tech Support that they had not seen an update from my monitoring unit since May 24th. They said most hospitals have a protocol to call...

Setting and AFib

Hi everyone,
6 months ago I was reading the print out from my last PM check and noticed that the AFib suppression algorithm was switched off. As I had had a lot of AFib episodes I asked why. Was told that they thought it probably didn't work. I then asked would it do me any harm if it was turned on. Answer...no. So requested it be turned on. I don't know whether it was that or the double dose of Magnesium that I started taking, but at the next check...no AFib. at all. I am wrapped!

What should I ask at Pacemaker check appointment

I have had my St Jude dual lead pacer since the middle of Feb 2015 for SSS. I am trying to learn everything I can re the Pacemaker. What questions should I ask at my next Pacemaker check. Do I need any reports? The only information I'very received so far is how often it is pacing (ie 43%).

Holter results

Hi folks, have just received a letter from consultant re. my 3day monitor. Showed up palpitations and I think he means to say pacemaker induced tachycardia(letter says pm medicated) so a clinic appointment is on it's way. Any tips on what settings may need changing , I have RR switched on as I said I felt as though I hit the wall when trying do exercise - however this was probably due to the heart block kicking in.
Hope they can improve things as when feeling well I feel so good but still g...

help with dialing in Adapta ADDR Medtronic

My electrophysiologist at University of Pennsylvania does not know the ins and outs of the Medtronic Adapta, that was designed for the peculiar and specific needs of cardiac athletes. Unfortunately, even though we have switched around a few settings, they are still not willing to make the changes I need to have the device work properly when I am NOT exercising. The device is working when I am exercising. However the irritation from the device has damaged and enlarged my right ventricle, so now...

JJiggers

I posted last week with questions about my upcoming 4 week check up...with the tech...you were right...he said all was working great and that was it...when I told him I was still having exactly the same symptoms I was having before the PM ( the feeling that I am going to pass out) and I'm having them just as frequently, he seemed to dismiss it. and said it wasn't showing up...I asked if I shouldn't be seeing the EP sooner than 4 months if I'm having problems, so he took me to the nurse and got m...

First year check ups

How often is a pm checked the first year? I know it probably isn't the same for every one but I just wanted to get an idea of what is the average.
My pacemaker was put in Jan. 10th, emergency, out of town. We went back a week later and bandage was removed and pm read. He said everything was working as it should and he would see me in 3 months after everything healed and the swelling settled down. I told him I was going to find a doctor closer to home. He understood. (His nurse even called...

Feel it when they pace my lower ventricle

I am new here and just received my pacemaker on April 28, 2015. My question is this, when the check and pace my heart, I can feel it when they shock my lower ventricle. I do not feel it when they shock the upper atrium. I also get a funny sensation in my chest and I start to get dizzy and/or lightheaded when this happens. The tech said they have the pacemaker set at 5 volts. Is this typical to feel only when they pace the lower lead and is 5 volts high? Thanks for your help...

Paced AV set to 300ms

My husband had his pacemaker implanted in 2009 and everything has gone well, or so we think (according to the Medtronic technician). Around the 15th of April he felt chest tightness and hoping it would go away on its own, didn't do anything until.... the 19th, we were going shopping and ended in the ER. He says he felt as if he were going to pass out and for a moment he felt disoriented. They thoroughly checked his heart, his cholesterol, his BP, for any blocked artery in his neck, and his l...

4 weeks post implant checkup

First pacer clinic appt today. Nurse says" Oh, you have the new Biotronik Eluna!" Think I am one of the first at this practice. All the parameters were fine. Had them crank up the base rate from 50 to 60 because I was still getting a few fast double beats followed by a pause. Thought is the timing was a bit slow and my heart was trying to compensate. Doc said everything looked good. No restrictions. See you in six months. The whole process has gone pretty smoothly. I am VERY glad I had the pacer...

St Jude pm info

Is needed. I have an appt with a new cardiologist and would like some feedback on questions to ask. My current Cardiologist seems to make very little comment when I ask him different question about my pm. I have gone to him several years and always come away with wanting more answers. Had a new battery this past year put in and even the EP favors Medtronic and was not helpful when asked questions.. The new cardiologist does use St Jude. I know very little about this pacemaker except it will not...

Appointment questions

I was waylayed headed south in January. I thought I was having a stroke and told hubby I needed to see a doctor. Emergency room found that my heart was beating in the 30 range. I was transfered by ambulance to a larger hospital and had a Medtronic Sensia pacemaker installed. There was a problem with the readings right after surgery and the rep had to come back to fix it. Went back home for a few weeks, found a heart doctor closer to home. He checked me and said the pacemaker was operating about...

Increase in Atrial Pacing

i have had a biventricular pacemaker for the past 10 years. For many years, pacemaker interrogation showed AS at 99%/VP 100% (had AVN abation in 2005) During the last 3 pacer checks, my atrial pacing has increased from sensing my intrinsic beat 99% of the time to 80% during today's pacer check. I was a fib free after a successful ablation in 2008, until 3 months ago, when I began paroxysmal a fib in short bursts, as well as occasional atrial tachycardia. My question...what would cause the incre...

For the CLS users

Something interesting for my "CLS buddies":

Spoke to a Biotronik technician today, because I keep getting rate drops while exercising. They either happen in the beginning, or after 20-25 minutes of running. When they happen in the end, the rate will not go up again, no matter what I do. It drops from 160 to around 120, and there simply is no way to increase the rate again.

So, now the tech explained to me that the CLS sensor has a kind of safety feature: If the rate stays...

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
