Background information?

Hi everyone, just to check, I've not much experience using this website and I'm wondering if we need to include and repeat background information when we ask questions of fellow members? In other words can members look up our previous posts where we have shared history, get informed, and then be able to better share their thoughts?

I don't mind repeating background information but would be interested in how I can find out pacemaker history of other members when th...

Nervous New Member

56 yo male with no prior known heart issues, medications for hypothyroidism and restless leg syndrome.  Lifelong runner with resting pulse avg 50.

Was flying back home on a red eye from Anchorage to Denver, sleeping when I passed out into the aisle.  My wife pulled me up, came to, got sick and passed out two more times.  Former navy medic and nursing student responded to PA announcement, couldn't get a pulse but my watch said 38.  ...

Abbott recall, software fix?

Has anyone with the St Jude/Abbott recall been told there may be a software fix, that the battery is not actually low and may not need replaced? We knew mine was part of the recall but were not concerned because I've had it since 2015 and most affected by the recall deplete sooner than this. Mine went from 9 years in January to watch list for replacement last month. My ep called Abbott and believes it is not actually low, that it's a software glitch. They want to interrogate in p...

HIS Bundle vs. RV apical vs. Biventricular pacing

As mentioned on other threads I'm trying to learn everything I can. I've read that the most often used RV apical pacing site for the ventricular lead can over time in some people lead to a condition called asynchronous heart failure since the QRS becomes widened, because this point of activation of the ventricles is not natural for the heart. So some centers have started using HIS bundle pacing in patients with intact left and right bundle branches to get...

Pacemaker

Heartbeat was 32 bpm when I went to get a cortisone shot.  Doctor sent me to ER via ambulance.  Tests run ekg, blood, and eco.  Cardiologist sent me home with 24 hour monitor and gave me an appointment 5 weeks away. He didn't seem alarmed. I m 73 and always active and fear getting a pacemaker.  Any insight helpful thanks

Thanks

Went in yesterday at 4:00 for pacemaker implant and on my way home by 9:00. First night has gone well. No complaints, cannot remember the last time my heart beat at a steady 70 beats per minute I knew exactly what to expect from reading the posts on this site. Thank all of you and I hope I have something to contribute along the way.

Abbott Aveir Leadless

Hey All!

I'm curious to hear if anyone here has an Abbott Aveir, or really any leadless pacemaker.

Any regrets on going the leadless route? Any words of wisdom to share?

I'm in my mid 30s with AV block and am mentally preparing for my 4th DDD device soon, with the bonus of having my 20 year old leads explanted at the same time.

I'll be having a discussion with my EP soon about explantation and participating in the Aveir DR i2i (dual chamber leadless pacer)...

Return to A-Fib

I want to thank again all those who helped me with feedback to decide to go ahead and have the pacemaker implanted in March 2021.

The device has been working very well since that time until recently, in mid July 2022, I tested positive for Covid while traveling on holiday. I had no obvious Covid type symptoms.

About two days later I started to experience what I remember as A-Fib symptoms: nervous sensation in the chest, irregular heartbeat, lightheadedness, fatigue....

Pacemaker Optinzation

After 6 years now my EP doctor says I must optimize my pacemaker.

I have read many studies about CRT and how about 30% do not respond. So the EP say I have to be at least %95

The claim is CRT will make your heart return to normal.

bivib pacing I am 83% paced.

I started reading studies it seems for people with afib like me their is steal a lot of contention about if optimation really works.

I am trying to get past the hype from manufacture of my pacema...

Resting basal rate sensing and pacing

Hi, has any one noticed an occasional burst from the A paced V sensed rhythm at rest to both A and V paced ( wide complex V on Kardia ) for a few minutes and then slowly reset to the baseline ( A paced, V sensed)? I have a DDD. The rate of this burst is a bit higher than the baseline rate and resets as the rate approaches the baseline. I feel the change as a slight stirring feeling in my stomach and I check with my Kardia! Could this be set off by an ectopic beat? Tha...

Disappointed

Some old timers may remember pieces of this story but ...

In Jan 2007 I was hospitalized after a snowmobiling accident where I tried hugging a tree at full throttle. Long and short, they finally realized I didn't have broken ribs but was in heart failure and had a heart attack. A whole herd of heart specialists shuttled through my cell to share their thoughts. They all projected doom and concensus was I wouldn't live without a heart transplant. I declined. The surgeon told...

Donating used pacemaker/ICD devices

My friend is a funeral director. He regularly removes devices prior to cremation. He said that a recycling company picks them up. The funeral home can donate proceeds to a charity. It's not approved to reuse pacemakers in the USA.

However, there's a program where living donors can send in their own used pacemaker/ICDs to potentially be refurbished for other countries to donate to those who can't afford pacemakers.

If...

Question Regarding Biotronik Pacemaker

I have a Biotronik pacemaker, and I noticed that I can feel when my pacemaker uploads the data to the monitor that I keep at my bedside each night around midnight. If I happen to be awake at the time, it feels like my heart is beating very hard, and it lasts for about a minute. I don't think it has woken me if I am sleeping at the time. Has anyone noticed this?

Pacemaker and Covid

I had my pacemaker changed out last October after ten years. No problems.

In June I returned home from Ireland after a three weeks vacation. Two days later I tested positive for covid. It was brutal but I survived. I had a really strange symptom and I am wondering if anyone else has too.

My heart rate was dropping to the 30 and then I could see it coming up back to 70 which is where my pacer is set. This continued for eleven days. I actually passed out three times from it. I calle...

Home Transmitter

I am a bit bummed.  After my pacemaker implant 3 years ago I received a Merlin at Home transmitter where reports were routinely sent in quarterly.  I felt very secure knowing I was monitored at night.  I am pacemaker dependent with complete heart block.  I moved and with Tracey's help here at the club, I requested my former Cardiologist release me to my new doctor whom I will see for the first time in a couple of weeks.

I was just informed t...

Heart pounding

I just had a lead revision on July 22, and this is the 26th. I just started getting heart pounding whenever I get up and walk. Is this normal? I didn't have this before when I first got pm in March.  Will this stop? I was just literally sitting hear and took off my sweater and felt a heart pounding,  I check my pulse and it was like 108 bpm which was weird. I was even moving slowly. Anyone else had that issue?

Odd revelation today

I've been having occaisional, minor, chest pain between the five and fifteen minute mark of my daily walk. I'm fine for the rest of the time.  I've checked my pulse at times and it's varied between 110 and 140bpm, maybe a bit more but never believed it.  My max is 130, it can't be above that.  Right?

Today, I found a chart of rate on my watch (I know, it's unreliable) but exactly when the problem occurs, the chart showed a large bump in the...
