My wife has had a pacemaker installed. Several months ago, because of her lifting, gardening, etc she called in for a checkup when feeling weird. The doc said rather than just re- calibrating the device (normal), he recommended a new lead wire be inserted. He told us he would simply wrap the old lead wire around the pacemaker to prevent infection potential. Sounded kind of weird to me, but we went with this. He said if a new lead was put in, the potential of infection would be greatly increased....

I had my PM removed in Jan of this year due to staff infection. It left a mass of 4cm by 2 cm which has now disappeared after intravenous cloxicillan and oral rifampicin and levofloxin. My r atrium is now 3cm in diameter.
Just wondering: What is the normal size of a R atrium?
Resting pulse hovers around 46 bpm but could not lift it beyond 111 bpm, This isn't the end of the world, though I won't be running any marathons soon, so holding off on reimplanting.

Hi there,
Hope someone can help me with my query.
I had my 3rd pacemaker fitted in March 2013. I am experiencing some pain in the shoulder just an inch or two left of the pacemaker site. I am an active golfer and put this down to a strained muscle. I have no other symptoms. My GP thinks the pacemaker may have become infected and sent me for some blood tests. Obviously I am worried that it may be infected and the whole system might need to be removed. What are the characteristic sympto...

Like several others I have read about here I too have no land line, just cell service and cable internet. I bought a USB adapter and loaded the software on my computer and while in the USB connector on my computer it connects and seems to work. When I remove it from the computer and insert it into the Merlin transmitter I get nothing. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Will a off the shelf USB adapter work to transmit over my cable line? Thanks for any help you can give. Douglas

Why would my heart doc put me on metoprolol when I
already have a pacer for bradycardia. I have asked why
prescribe the metoprolol and I really don't get an answer.
Any one out there ever deal with this same dilemma ?
THANKS !!

Hi all- I had lead extraction and PM removed and a new PM Boston Medtronic inserted on July 21. I have been experiencing numbness and tingling in my hands, legs and feet. At times it's quite painful. Has anyone experienced this with PM insertion? I'm still quite fatigued and am due to go back to work next week which I think is way too early but cardiologist seems to think a couple of weeks is all I need off. Any input on the numbness would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I had my first PA inserted on 16/0712014 sent home same day, ended up back in hospital with all sorts of pain next day where I was kept in and after 4 days they realised that the lead ahead moved, so they had to operate again on 22/07/2014.
Back home next day, since then I have been so sore round my ribs, dull pain on my right side under my ribs, and an dull pain under left ribs with the occasional stabbing pain, this scare me as that is what I had for 4 days before they realised lead...

Thanks for the post. She has a Dr. Appt. tomorrow and I will ask. She also has a bracelet. Trying to talk her into trying it. She doesn't want to give up her independence. I understand.

My Mom had a pacemaker implanted several years ago. Don't know what it's called. She recently got a life alert system at home (partly against her will; we had to talk her into it) and has been wearing the necklace. She is now telling us that she can't breathe as freely when she is wearing it and feels better when she takes it off. Has anyone else had anything like this happen? I suspect she may be being manipulative since she wasn't really happy about it in the first place. I can't find an...

It has been 3 months since my device was implanted and now my left breast is larger than my right.
No pain, tenderness, or discoloration.
While sleeping on my left side I do have some muscle twitching but that should not be enough to cause an enlarged breast.
I row a boat for a living and am in great shape and have even lost weight in the last few months.
So your collective thoughts are?

Had pacemaker implanted March 2014. Been having episodes of skipped beats. Horrifying like your heart stops, flips. How can this be with a pacemaker??? Had Stress test done last week and then Echocardiogram Friday. Doc said stress test showed blood flow too slow at rest, but could be a false positive thus she ordered the echocardiogram. No results on that yet. Anyone else experience these skipped beats? If so did you see a doctor? Would appreciate any enlightenment on this matter.

I just got my PM installed and have not sleep since. I also seem to have some high anxiety to go along with it. They set my PM on 70 and I seem to be speeding. Sleeping pills work for 4 hours only and are dangerous. Any suggestions, or is it just me.

Hi
I'm new here. I had my PM changed yesterday, and cannot move without agony. My first PM surgery was not this painful, and my doctor assures me I am NOT NORMAL.
He suggested I go to the ER for IV pain meds, and in same breath assured me he has never had This happen before, and it must be ME. The surgeon used glue over incision, and the burning sensation when I move, try to walk, etc, feels like I have been shot.
How can this be normal. Anyone else totally bed bou...

Is it possible for the pacemaker to make it's way to pushing through the skin and making it painful to the touch? This has been happening for about 3 months now and is very painful to the touch. I've had it since June 2010.

Please don't judge me crazy, but I've been wondering what will happen when my body is ready to die. Will the pacemaker keep on ticking and will this expand the amount of time it would take to die - waiting for the liver to give, up, the lungs, the bladder, etc? so that instead of dying, your body just hung in there! Would they remove the pacemaker when all signs of life are depleted? I asked my doctor this and he actually ran out of the office and told me I was freaking him out! and he did not...

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
