Too old for this

AT 89 + years my sticky aortic valve decided to call it quits. I will have a tavr but first comes the pacemaker. Next Wednesday is the big day. Not at all looking forward to any of it. Tavr about a month away. Have had 3 hip replacements and knee surgeries and shoulder surgery. Have had heart arrhythmia for a long time. Dread this pacemaker thing especially the recovery aspects. Joined group to hopefully get my courage up.Appreciate all the info.

Total AV block- Looking at Medtronic Micra AV,

Hello!

I'm a 36yr old father of 3, and I've known about my total AV block (as diagnosed at least) since I was 18.  My resting hr has steadily been dropping from the high 40's in my late teens to the high 30's now.  My maximal hr is about 130, and I can maintain steady exercise in a relatively normal fashion.

I've put off a pm due to the length of time I am likely to need one.  I'm still asymptomatic (at least for any dramatic symptoms l...

EP vs Pacemaker Tech

I have seen references to seeing your PMTech for adjustments. Do you make an appointment throught the EP's office for the Tech specifically or do you see the EP and they bring in the Tech?

When I saw the Tech at the hospital before I was discharged and asked about how things were set he said he couldn't make any changes without directions from the doctor so I am assuming you make your appt with the EP?

rare earth magnets

I'm looking at new knife storage and the one I picked has rare earth magnets. I know they're stronger and heard we need to be careful around them but didn't know much more about them so went on a hunt to learn more. This article is the easiest to understand that's from a reputable source (NIH) so thought I'd share. It's from 2008, didn't see anything newer. A rare earth magnet can put a pacer in magnet mode up to 24 cm (9") so slightly longer average dist...

the power of caffeine

Subtitled, I Really Should Know Better

Some lucky people can handle caffeine, others of us not so much. I went 10 years with no caffeine because I know I can't handle it. Then I had a cup here and there and I was ok. Then I got to where I allowed myself one cup per day and I was ok. At least I thought I was. According to my apple watch, my resting rate has been high 80's/low 90's and I was going to mention it to my ep next time I see him. Then with quarantine I've been&n...

Initial Low HR Setting

I recently had my pacemaker implanted for bradycardia that I have as a result of childhood illness. I am also a runner and my resting HR was in the mid 30's to low 40's. The pacemaker became a necessitiy when my heart couldn't keep up with my activity demands any longer. The EP set the lower HR on the PM to 60. Since the implantation I have not been able to sleep, feel like my heart is beating really fast, and just feel shaky and jumpy (like i have had too much caffiene). I feel l...

A pulsating feeling that repeats every day

I've had a BIOTRONIC Evity 6 DRT for 1 year and two months exactly. These last two months I've been, as have most of us, under lockdown (age 78) These lst two months I've taken to writing a lot and since I'm at the computer in the same position all the time, I became aware of a strange, pulsating feeling every afternoon at exactly 5 pm. The kind of reaction one gets from taking a shot of straight malt in one gulp, pulse and chest accelerate briefly. No dizziness, no faint...

Traveling with my pacemaker

Shortly after having my pacemaker put in I took a vacation and went to the Philippines and I forgot all about my monitor.

I didn't have any problems in fact I'm virtually forgot about it.

Since I didn't have a cell phone number that the monitor could get to I was never called about the absence of data for that month

How do single chamber leadless pacemakers actually work on sinus node dysfunction

I was just reading about the new single chamber Micra AV leadless pacemaker. It says that it provides most of, but not all of, the function of a dual-chamber pacemaker. The one thing that it's lacking is "atrial stimulation, which would be for people who the atrium doesn't beat fast enough, such as in sick sinus syndrome or chronotropic incompetence". In that case, you would still need a leaded pacemaker in order to address these problems.

I have a single cha...

New to PM

My PM insertion was May 15th and I’ve been somewhat stressed because of lack of knowledge on how I’m suppose to feel.  My PM was suppose to be placed on the left side but at the time of insertion the Dr asked me if I’d had any problems on that side because it was obstructed or he wasn’t able to go that way.  So I have a right side PM and I am a predominately right side sleeper and I felt like I was laying right on my PM so I would sort of compensate and adjus...

What is the procedure like? What questions do you suggest?

Tomorrow I'm having the pacemaker conversation with my EP.  I have a list of questions, but I'm wondering what you wish you had thought to ask up front.  (I have lots of PACs/PVCs and now intermittent bradycardia - HR 40s, hx of A-Fib, and "a very ectopic atria." EP doesn't think I have sinus node dysfunction).

Also, what is the procedure like?  I've seen conflicting stories elsewhere re: anesthesia, no anesthesia, general vs. propofol, da...

What should bpm with PM

What should your bpm be with pacemaker? In the house lying up in the bed the Fitbit says 64 bpm. Waking up from sleeping it says 51-54 bpm. I go for a walk with my wife and bpm on the Fitbit say 86 bpm the other day. Today it was 104 bpm. I'm still sweating while walking but not as bad.

Heart flutters while exercising

Hello, I'm 25 years old, have had my icd for 4 years , and several ablations for Brugada Syndrome. Everything has been fine for the past 3 years, but now every time I ride my bike or go for a run, I start getting flutters/skipped beats. If they persist I start getting really out of breath, they only happen during exercise, my icd has not fired at any of these times! I have my 6 month follow in the middle of July, should I wait until July or ask to be seen earlier? Has anyon...

I'm a little anxious about this as I am hoping to return to work in the coming week and as I work at construction (plasterer) I'm worried that either I have done some damage or will do damage to the pocket/site ..Any thoughts guys??? One more new guy - procedure scheduled for June 29

Greetings everyone, I am glad I have found this site and group.

I have had a slow heartbeat as long as I can remember (around 42 bpm) .  I have had tests and ECG's in the past and doctors have never gone any further with it and I always thought I was just incredibly calm (!).  Fast Forward to 2020 and my wife and I have both retired and relocated from Colorado to Kentucky to be closer to family and I found a new doctor.  On my initial appointment she immediately...

To get a pacemaker or not, that is the question - bradycardia

I'm new here on the forum, thanks for any responses.  I had to go to the ER for a heart rate of 40 over a 4 hour period one afternoon.  They took me off diltiazem, but I still have HR 40 intermittently.

I have a history of Afib and somewhat successful ablation, except for aLOT of PACs (burden of 22%), alot of atrial bijeminy. The EP says "non-conducted PACs" are causing the bradycardia.  I can't take meds to control them (diltiazem and fle...

New PM on my dominant RHS

Hi all,

Looking for any advice and views to my new situation I know find myself in. My new Sorin Eno ( Medtronic leads) pacemaker was fitted on the 28th April this year, it's my 3rd device and my previous 2 were Medtronic..Unfortunately my last device was only in for 3yrs and had to be removed in March because I developed Endocarditis on the leads..After a pretty tough few months of heavy antibiotics and trauma , my new device was eventually fitted ..But as you can imagine the...
