Today is

My 6 month anniversary, hard to believe it's been 6 months already. Life is great! I fell so much better. I think back to how much I complained and cried over getting a pm. Well, I hardly think about it anymore. I have done 2 5k races, something I had never done before!
Today, I am thankful to my doctor, who,has been amazing through this journey, my family, who put up with my depression, and to the pacemaker club for all the support and encouragement I received.

Cell Phones

Hi all. Having my first PM implant on Tuesday. I'm actually looking forward to having it done as I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired ;). My question is cellphone related. I use my cell for work and am on it 6 hours a day. I hold it to my left ear and from what I've read, my implant will be on my left side since I'm right handed. That said, I've read conflicting news regarding cellphone use. Does a cell interfere with your pacemaker? If so, changing the ear I use to talk will definitely ta...

Back to Normal

Hello All

Its been two months since I've been "wired". My concern was how would I react when I return to work and other activities. Let me just say you guys were correct. I have had no issues with my pacemaker at work. My concern was would the stress and electronic devices interfere with my pacemaker. Thankfully I have had no issues or setbacks at work or elsewhere. I have not been thru airport security yet but now I am not afraid at all. I don't remember if it was someone on the blog...

I "can't use the vacuum"

And I wish you folks would quit telling my husband it's okay now!

He was there post-op when they told me not to lift things over 10 lbs or raise my arm up over shoulder height or vacuum. It's two months down the road and he still jumps in to caution me when I raise my arm up, and he insists on lifting moderately heavy things (say, a 3 gallon plastic water jug, so about 25 lbs or 11 kg), and he insists on doing the vacuuming.

So please, shush! I'm enjoying this! :)

Protection for babies and small kids

I am new to pacing, my 8 week old grandson has had a pacemaker since day 9. I am looking for something he can wear (under his clothes) that will protect him from wireless transmissions. I have found protective compression clothing more geared towards older kids and sports. His pacemaker is in his belly and it will be until he is closer to 10-12 years old.

Is there such a thing that would give him protection from wireless phones, ipads, computers, etc.

Cathy

Does anyone else worry?

If their pm will just stop working or if it has stopped working if it seemingly does not respond right away? Does anyone else have overwhelming anxiety and does it go away? I've only had my Micra TPS since Monday, maybe that has something to do with it? Thanks!

Good Morning all

Been some time and just checking in. Hope everybody has been doing good.

Really nothing new for me. Just some more adjustments of meds and on the ticker box. The later of the two has been working overtime. Guess that is a good thing. LOL

It's still a battle from day to day, but over all, I just push thru. Hunting season now and I have yet to go. Guess my will is just not there anymore. Of course my family has tried to push me to go, but I just don't feel up to it.

Yes you can get an MRI

I will be getting one next week. My leads are NOT MRI compatible, it took a lot of effort and coordination, and needs to be done in the heart hospital but it is finally scheduled. Next hurdle is getting prior auth from my insurance company. Should be a breeze after the effort involved in getting a neurologist to finally understand that yes, this is possible. Sometimes being hard core pays off.

Best Brand for Pacemaker

I am scheduled to have a pacemaker installed 12/3 and in doing research came across this site. An acquaintance of mine who had a St Jude pacemaker installed 6 years ago, had the wires melt and short out. This was installed 6 years ago and I have read many reports of problems with St Jude, but do not know if they have been corrected. I am pretty certain that I do not want a St Jude model, but do not know much about the other brands and would appreciate any recommendations or feedback. I realize t...

I had PM put in this morning....procedure took about 1 hour I was awake and able to ask questions during it, I was done by 9:30 am. DC'd from hospital by 2:30 pm. I thought that seemed kind of quick, but that's the way they do it I guess. I wasn't having any issues. Boy am I sore now! Taking Extra Strength Tylenol q 4 hours. I have a pain in my left shoulder when I take a deep breath, they didn't seem concerned. How long will this soreness last? I wasn't prepared for soreness/pressure...

Just got home!

Good Evening Everyone!! Yesterday was the BIG day and this evening I am grateful to report that I got home with my brand new PM, a Micra TPS. Love it...really, really, really sore at the incision site on my leg. Have an EKG strip of it working for the first time last night! AMAZING...felt a heart pause / brady episode start, then ya know what happened? Pace, pace, pace..right in rhythm. And ya'll were right, the anticipation (and stitches coming out of my leg) were the worst parts!!

Help!

Hi everyone Im new on this site and this is my first post. 2 months ago I went to the hospital. I went for one thing and got rushed to the I.C.U! Long story short I found out that I needed a pacemaker! I go back to have my surgery December 11, 2014 it would have been sooner but I wanted to be put to sleep. I'm very sad, upset, & confused that this happened to me. I also feel embarrassed that I have to get this at 25 years old. I'm a C.N.A and my residents have pacemakers...I worry that since I'm...
