Thanks Sheila, I appreciate your responding to my question! and it helps to just know somebody understood what I was talking about. I am not a depressed person by nature at all, but have felt that way some since the surgery!! I go back for my checkup this Thursday, my first since my surgery. I also have felt my heart feel like it "skips," don't know if that is the right word for it or not, that is just the way it feels, but I suppose that is why I have a PM!! Before I received it, my heart w...

I understood that my pacemaker was set to pace if HR went below 60 bpm. Recently had dental surgery and was hooked up to a HR monitor and EKG machine. While waiting for the surgeon (about five minutes) and prior to sedation, my heart rate was 55-57. I had found the same readings with my home heart rate monitor and BP machine but thought maybe they were off. At last ICD check up was told I am paced less than 1%.
Question - is there a time lag from when the heart rate goes down and th...

Hello! I have a dual lead PM for 18 months.
After reading the posts today, I noticed that several people said that they had been "shocked". (some worry that it wore down their PM battery).
What are they talking about?
I have to adjust myself (posture, sitting or laying down position) frequently because I can FEEL the PM pulsing. This happens ALL the time. Is that the same thing as the shock you mention?
Should I now ask about the battery life too??
Thanks a lot!

AV Node Ablation

I had an AV node ablation and a dual pacemaker implantation in late July this year, following two failed catheter ablations for treatment of paroxysmal AFib and then atrial flutter.
I need to understand how the pacemaker works and what to expect from it, in that now the ventricular rate is controlled 100%,by the pacemaker, will I ever experience arrhythmia again? I know that the atria will continue in AFib (I have to continue lifelong anticoagulation) but that the chaotic signals wil...

Does anyone experience chest pains internally under the rib cage on the same side as the PM? I get other chest pains in the middle and right side of my chest too. Doctors thought it might be acid reflux but after being on pro tonics for a month there's been no real change in Sx. I've been having arrhythmia's and flutter sensations too. Just did a month lone event monitor and waiting for the results. Of course my Sx got more frequent after the monitoring ended......Not taking heart meds and got o...

Before I got my PM, I had chest pain associated with PVCs. It felt like a hammer blow on my chest from the inside.
After the PM, I had gradually worsening chest pain associated with episodes of PVC mediated tachycardia. It felt like severe squeezing terminating in the hammer blow and I would nearly pass out. Turning off the ventricular lead stopped the episodes of severe pain.
I still had/have PVCs and I still occasionally have mild chest pain associated with them. I can ig...

Hello all,
I am undergoing an electrical study next week with the idea that the results will show the need for a pacemaker. If you have been through this before, could you give me an idea of what to expect with regard to how the study feels and recovery time afterword.? Thank you in advance for the support.

8-Oct - My one year anniversary with the PM. Unfortunately I was unconscious when I got the PM so I'm taking my wife's word about it.
So for the newbies, things do get better. There were times in this past year that I thought things would never get better. But they did.
There were times when I would ask myself if I would ever get back to some level of normal. But I did.
Hang in there. Life does get better.
My best wishes to all.

Hi. I went with my daughter to a doctor she sees for weight management. Just trying to maintain my weight because before the pacemaker I lost a good 50lbs. I'm guessing cause I felt so bad. Have gained about 20 back. I have been taking B-12 for a while. My pacemaker surgery was in May 2014. After a long list of questions by this doctor, he gave me the B-12 shot. I thought it would help bring my energy level up but all I get is sweating. Anybody else get B-12 shot after pacemaker?

OK, I'm new to this. I've been following the site for a while and find that many of the posts sound like me. I am 42 years old and have had significant bradycardia for the past 3 years (probably longer than that but have been diagnosed now). I also have PVC's. My heart rate is usually in the low 40's but it has gone down to 37 one time when I went to ER. I am an active person, when I have the energy, but my endurance has been pretty poor for quite some time now. I have had every test under...

I'm new and looking for guidance. I have sinus bradycardia (upper 30s at night, mid 40s day) with no other major heart problems, plus I have obstructive sleep apnea treated by CPAP. I often have severe fatigue which seems to be worsening in conjunction with my heart rate gradually slowing over the last few years. My cardiologists have said it is my option to get a pacemaker. (I'm considering a Medtronic Advisa if I do.) However, they will give me no assurance or even a meaningful probability est...

My pacemakers minimum bpm is set at 70. In the last couple hours it has dropped to 45 bpm. And has stayed there for several hours. Other than feeling like crap. Should I be concerned?
Thanks

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.
