Hello all,
I am undergoing an electrical study next week with the idea that the results will show the need for a pacemaker. If you have been through this before, could you give me an idea of what to expect with regard to how the study feels and recovery time afterword.? Thank you in advance for the support.

Tilt Test
by WJ - 2014-10-12 04:10:48
The tilt test is to test the electrical function of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system (electrical). This system may cause fainting, dizziness, or dramatic drop in blood pressure. In my case a pacemaker was fitted as a result of this test. I have recently received my second unit.

Hi Sheila
Nothing to it.
Mine was done on an outpatient basis
I have a dual lead Medtronic in my left chest area
Diagnosed bradycardia. (20 bpm)
In at 8:30 am and out by 4:00PM
I was supposed to take it easy for 4 weeks but misunderstood and thought they said 4 days
I returned almost immediately to my post operative routines and am feeling great 6 weeks later with no ill effects whatsoever
Don.t worry, I am 69 and very active and most of the time have forgotten that I have a pacemaker.

I was sent for a tilt test. I was strapped to a bed that could be tilted upright to an angle of something like 66.2 degrees. Depending on how long it took to lose consciousness, (anything less than 20 min), and for a period of more than 1 sec resulted in a pacemaker.
Hope this helps.

Agree !

Hi Sheila. I agree 100 per cent with justice. My experience, too, was that there is really nothing too it !
I had mine implanted with a local anaesthetic and returned home that afternoon without any need for subsequent pain killers of any kind.
I'm not sure what you mean by an "electrical study". Normally the decision whether or not to give you a PM is based purely on an ECG which identifies if your heart rate falls too low.
Best of luck

Tilt Test ?
by IAN MC - 2014-10-12 11:10:03
Could someone educate me please ? I thought that tilt tests were done purely to find out if low blood pressure is causing fainting rather than bradycardia .
I believe that you will only be given a tilt test if you have a history of fainting but I may be wrong. I have read on here before that someone had a PM fitted following the results from a tllt test and couldn't understand it then either
Why should fainting induced by a tilt test lead to a PM implant ?

Ian, I did not answer all your questions. The fainting episodes occur at any time any where without warning, like when you are driving, crossing a busy street etc. Since my implant I have not experienced the problem again.
