AFib blood thinners or not.

Need advice people. Had my PM check October13. All ok but episodes of Afob increased to 6 or 7 a year. Often average lasting a day. I take Flecainide 50 mgs "pill in pocket" approach until sinus rhythm. Often takes 2nd pill to revert back to normal. My PM was for Sick Sinus Synd.
Saw my heart Dr today who thinks it's time I went on blood thinners. Only problem there is I take medication for inflammatory arthritis increasing likelihood of a bleed.
He said, go home think about it & talk...

Safe Toys

Hi All,

Does anyone has kids who played with any of the leap frog computers or learning games and is safe to use with their pacemakers.

I want to buy my son his birthday present but I am scared that it might tamper his device. What are your thoughts and recommendation that will be safe to use?

I wonder (again).. (I know, I wonder a lot)

I was wondering who created this great website, how long ago was it created, where is it from or its history about it. If anyone knows, please enlighten me. I want to give a shout out (give thanks) to the creator. Have a nice day.

magnets

I have been wondering about magnets in every day life. I have magnets on my frig. I have magnets in the book covers on my Kindles and on my IPads. I have magnets on my necklaces.

How serious should I be about these magnets? Should I remove them?

I have looked online about magnets and PM but have not found anything that tells me about how safe they are or not.

Thanks in advance for you input.

Placement under arm vs traditional

I am a 27 year old female that is going to have a new pacemaker placed. I have one in my abdomen that was replaced 3 months ago but it is inappropriately zapping my intestines and so we're going to place it in the adult position. My EP gave me the option of either traditional (cut into the shoulder) or under my armpit. I am absolutely getting it placed under my muscle but haven't decided which spot to get it placed. Has anyone had under the arm placement? How does that work with under wire and v...

New Member

Hi all,

New here and also new to pacemakers. I just got my Medtronic SureScan implanted on December 13th (FRIDAY the 13th !). First checkup since the implant is due today. There's a ton of stuff to learn about these things ! I needed one because my heart rate went down to 24 bpm a few times at home and I had to be airlifted to the local hospital. I'll be assaulting the cardiologist with a ton of questions, and I'm sure I'll have a few to post here as well. One thing that has me VERY c...

Echo Results

Hi All,

My son who has a pacemaker had an echo done recently and the physican stated on his report he has a moderately dilated left ventricle with normal left ventricular systolic function(LVEF 55-60%).Some suggestion of diastolic dysfunction as well.

Has anyone ever experience this with their kids?

When my son was born his heart was dilated and now with the aid of his pacemaker, will this condition be resolved?

Appreciate if you can share your informat...

It feels like

I've been punched right in my device for about 5 days now. That's the best way to explain it. I am very aware of it and it hurts so I have been monitoring it. I didn't accidentally bump it or any new exercises or anything like that so I can't figure it out.

Then last night, I felt a little electrical shock from my device that went straight down my chest about 6-7 inches in length. This occurred 7 times within a half hour. I know the leads do not follow that path so I don't thin...

DIY tools

My 90 year old father is going to be given a pacemaker for atrial fibrillation but he is very worried he won't be able to use his electric saw to cut logs and his electric drill. He's been a DIY man all his life and this means a lot to him. Is there anyone (over 80!) who has a PM and continues using electric tools?

Ablation

Hi all. I have been reading all the feedback about people who have had ablation procedures on here and have been rather discouraged. I am in the process of having the procedure done because of an irregular heart beat. I have been on a calcium blocker which has helped, but not completely. My heart wants to jump ahead of my pacemaker, so my heart is sometimes beating together and sometimes the ventrical ahead of the atrium. I thought having the procedure might help, but now am not so sure. Is the...

Av node and crt-p

I love this site as I visit it daily just to keep my dad up to date. He would flip if he knew I worried about him so much lol. In April 2012 he went to OSU Ross heart hospital for CHF. He has had stents, mitral valve repair, etc.. Since 2012 he hasn't been in the hospital, he had Av node ablation and Crt-p implanted. He seems to be doing good. He walks 3-4 times a week on the treadmill he says anywhere from 2.7 mph to 3.4, and up hills etc.. He takes his meds, beta blocker, ace inhib...

Science both sides of the Atlantic !

Sometimes it DOES take a Rocket Scientist!! (true story reported in the press here )..

Scientists at Rolls Royce in the UK built a gun specifically to launch dead chickens at the windshields of airliners and military jets all travelling at maximum velocity.

The idea is to simulate the frequent incidents of collisions with airborne fowl to test the strength of the windshields.

American engineers heard about the gun and were eager to test it on the Windshield...

MRI

In the discussion of the effects of having a MRI done with a pacermaker I'm not to sure about the ones dated before 2013 but the newer pacemakers 2013 and up are MRI safe as of the ICD that is a discussion you will have with a professional on that subject..Just remember they have your medical history and plus you can also let them know you have a pacer or an ICD and everything will be fine. I have done plenty on research on my PM since I had it. It is for everyone to use free time to get to know...
