magnets

I have been wondering about magnets in every day life. I have magnets on my frig. I have magnets in the book covers on my Kindles and on my IPads. I have magnets on my necklaces.

How serious should I be about these magnets? Should I remove them?

I have looked online about magnets and PM but have not found anything that tells me about how safe they are or not.

Thanks in advance for you input.

No worries

Unless you have an industrial magnet - no worries. By an industrial magnet I'm referring to the ones they use in junkyards to pick up a car. Any magnets you're going to find in the home aren't a problem as long as the 6 inch rule is applied. i.e. keep the magnet 6 inches away from the PM.

We had a guy on the forum yesterday who was working with sintering furnaces - no problems. That's a heck of a larger magnetic field than you'll ever run into at home. I've also held my wife's purse up to my chest and it has four rare earth magnets to keep it closed - no problems.

I wouldn't put a rare earth magnet directly on the PM. Don't really want to tempt fate. But even then, the PM should go into test mode and not shut down. The newer PM's can go through a MRI and that's a big magnetic field. They did a MRI on me shortly after my PM was inserted. I had more problems with the broken rib than the PM.

Quit worrying. Go enjoy life.

The only magnet I've ever encountered that messed with my pacer was at the club. If I stand next to the 10 foot bass booming techno then I have problems. A normal ol' magnets we have around don't do anything. So don't worry :)

My Experience

I work in the Tool & Die industry and have to go to sample shops that run our injection mold tooling. Certain larger presses have magnetic platens that are strong enough to pick up several cars. I always stay at least 20 yards away from them but I still start to feel nauseous after awhile and light-headed. I asked my EP about them and he said as far as permanent damage to the pacemaker just do not go up and hug the machines. However, it will mess with the function of the pacemaker temporarily so if I start to feel it I should walk away and then my pacemaker will resume normal function. I got my PM implanted on 10/1/13, just over 3 months ago. Initially I got nauseous immediately by being near the presses but I am noticing that my tolerance seems to be building up and I'm able to be out there for longer periods of time.

I just had this miracle implanted two weeks ago and I’m feeling better.
