Waiting game

I don't like this waiting game that I have been having with getting a new PM. Since October they have been saying that my battery is running out. I got it checked again in January then again in May. I just got it checked this last Monday. The battery is at 1 to 7 more months. This is going to be my 5th Pm since 1984. I don't remember the first 2 being like this at all. Of course I was still child at the time. It was kind of fast last time. My current PM will be 8 years old later this mon...

My 1 Year Anniversary

So today is the day,my 1 year anniversary of my PM.
I can and yet cannot believe it's really been a year already,it's been tough sometimes, and yet other times,it seems like nothings changed.
Most definatly not where I ever imagined myself a bit over a year ago,but then sometimes we do not have a choice in the direction our lives take us..That was my case, happily, things are good, actually great with me,and for that I am eternally grateful.
I have been fortunate enough to live in N...

Fourth of July

I know this is probably a very stupid question, but I promised a friend I would ask it anyway. Since I have to avoid welding and sparks, what about sparklers and fireworks? Is there a problem with anything like that? And is it worse for us if we get hit by lightning? I asked my cardiologist if I should try to avoid something specific and he suggested I don't get tasered. He said if I'm in the process of committing a crime and get caught, I should just lie down on the ground and say "don't taser...

Cardiac Sarcoidosis

I could really use some positive feedback to help me deal with the worrying.
About 6 weeks ago on May 16 I had a 2 wire pacemaker installed for a second degree heart block. My pulse was around 36 bpm.
The surgeon said he would be doing some further testing in an attempt to discover what caused me to need a pacemaker. On June 19 I had a PET scan. The test results stated a suggestion of Cardiac Sarcoidosis. There was no sign of Sarcoidosis anywhere else in my body except my heart. S...

Who's on Line?

Is there anyone else whose name does not show in the Box on the right side listing members on line when they log in?

That's been my situation ever since that day last week when we were down for the day for system up grades.

Makes me feel like a "Man Without a Country."

My new best buddy

I've had my Pacer for nearly two weeks now and I have to ask why we didn't do this a couple of years ago. I feel wonderful! No more swollen ankles and feet, legs that feel like boat anchors and joint pain. Major reduction in my BP meds including Lasix. I just hope this is not a temporary thing but until I begin to feel a need to slow down, I'm going ahead with my life.

I was in the process of painting the exterior of my house and half done when my A/Fib sent me into CHF on Father's D...

Thank you.

I would just to say a BIG thank you to everybody who takes the time to answer questions. Those who have particular knowledge about a particular problem because they have encountered it themselves and to those who have extra knowledge about Pacemakers and give detailed answers to all sorts of questions from us who are very frightened in the beginning.

I'm almost 3 years into my Bi-vent PM and I'm quite at ease with it but I still remember how scared I was in the beginning.

Max hear rate

Nolan here again: Thanks Tracy and Bev for your comments.
I should have mentioned in my first post that the Dr. who implanted my device said that there had been no damage to my heart, and that there was no evidence that I had a heart attack, which I thought I had when I went to the emergency room. I was given an MRI of my heart because the Dr. thought something looked strange from another test (can't remember what). The MRI showed that my heart was misshaped---a bit enlarged, and he susp...

Upcoming pacemaker surgery

My 17 year old son will have his pacemaker implanted in 11 days. We've been preparing for this for years so there aren't too many questions we haven't already asked. However, I'd love to have some insight into helping him be comfortable post-op. Extra pillows? Sleeping positions? Any been there done that info you think we would benefit from would be much appreciated!
