Nolan here again: Thanks Tracy and Bev for your comments.
I should have mentioned in my first post that the Dr. who implanted my device said that there had been no damage to my heart, and that there was no evidence that I had a heart attack, which I thought I had when I went to the emergency room. I was given an MRI of my heart because the Dr. thought something looked strange from another test (can't remember what). The MRI showed that my heart was misshaped---a bit enlarged, and he suspected that was what had been causing my heart to beat so slow. So, this is why I think that my max could very well be higher than the "equation" number of 146, and why I perhaps should have a stress test to find my best exercise strategy......any comments appreciated.

Today I explained everything to my doctor, he set my lower rate back to 80 and I felt an immediate improvement.
Try Cardiac Rehab

Cardiac Rehab is a monitored exercise program with a Nurse and Exercise Physiologist. The Nurse will advise what your HR for exercise should be. Sometimes, as heart patients, they don't want us to exercise at the "normal equation"....at least in the beginning.
I have an ICD. I also did not have a heart attack. I am paced 100%. I have SSS and LBBB and my heart was enlarged. After almost 5 years now, my heart is no longer enlarged and my EF went from 24% to 50%....truly a miracle in my eyes!! I am very lucky.
I think Cardiac Rehab should be mandatory for those of us who can exercise and I would also speak to your Doc about the stress test.
Good luck to you,
Grateful Heart
