Work place electromagnetic interference - Medtronic

Hi all

I am back at work today (working from home still).

I normally work in an industrial environment, with large transformers, lots of EMF signalling and 25,000 V uninsulated power lines.

Have any of you managed to get a more detailed document from the pacemaker manufacturers on how my employer can conduct a risk assessment on my safety at work?

In addition, if for whatever reason my pacemaker did go into a safe mode or worse - other than symptoms would the pac...

IPHONE 12 Precautions

I have a pacemaker and ICD and was planning on upgrading my IPHONE 6s to the new IPHONE 12 Mini. However, after much research into the makeup of the IPhone 12 I want to share a warning to all my fellow club members.

The I Phone 12 series have the Magsafe Charger that charges your phone by attaching to the back using 18-yes- 18 Magnets. A huge increase over the older IPhones. These magnets put out a  much stronger magnetic field than older models and have an increase chance of...

Pacemaker magnet

I am a nurse. I have been in a new position for about a year. A new floor. We do colonoscopies. I assist the doctor. So I'm standing next to the doctor at the patient's bedside. The anesthesiologist comes in to check this elderly sickly woman. Woman has a pacemaker. Anesthesiologist decides she needs the magnet applied to her chest and the code cart pads. Code cart pads are not usual and I have never seen anyone with a pacemaker  have to have the magnet placed.  Underst...

Pacemaker and Industrial induction oven.

Hi!

I recently got fitted with a Pacemaker at a young age. Everything went well with the operation etc.

The only thing im currently worried about, is my work.

I work at a aluminium extrusion factory. We use industrial sized induction ovens to heat up the aluminium billets for further processing, there are 3 of these ovens and they are each about the same size as a small van ( Caddy etc.).

After doing some checking online, there does not seem to be that much ...

Apple Watch -Series 6/SE and Pacemaker

There have been posts in the past on this topic, but I want to revisit for the Sept 2020 Apple products.  I am contemplating an Apple Watch (never had one before).  I have found a lot of differing opinions across the internet on if it is wise to have one if you have a pacemaker.  I called Medtronic, my pacemaker manufacturer and they say it is ok as long as you don't put the charger or watch near your pacemaker and sleeping with it on could cause that to happen.  It sh...

Machine shop equipment interference

Hello everyone,

I'm scheduled to receive an ICD in a few weeks and looking for a solution to a potentially career ending problem. I work in a die shop and have been told that I will not be able to be around surface grinders due to the magnetic fields around the magnetic chuck when energized. This is a substantial part of my job. Anyone else with a similar situation and is it possible to wear something over the area to shield the implant from EMI(copper)? Also whether or no...

Vibrations

Hello,

My name is Santiago and i've had a pacemaker (Medtronic) for a while now but i still don't fully understand the limitations that this implies. As my cardiologist always told me, i have to keep my cellphone away from my chest and on the other side pocket of my pants, i don't know why is this but i do it anyways.

Today i've bought a fitbit that tells me my heart rate all the time but it vibrates with notifications, i wear it in my left hand and i'...

Nursery Toys

Hi everybody, I'm pretty new to this club. My little boy (10 months) has a Pacemaker fitted and is starting nursery next week. They have asked for some advice on toys that he shouldn't play with, our cardiologist said nothing electronic. Does this mean nothing at all with a battery?

Thank in advance for any advice at all.

Results PM

Hi there Crusty & Ian,

Yabba dabba doe I’m reborn!!!

I managed to consult another cardiologist and laid down my casus to him verbally knowing that before I was allowed in his office he had already absorbed all details etc. I hoped.

Explained to him that when cycling my PM blocked further activities when coming into the 145 BPM zone. Also the pace was exceptionally slow! The upper limit was 170 BPM.

Very frusta...

Biotech Pacemaker

I recently purchased a Phonak TV Connector to be used with hearing aids.  The user's manual warns that it may generate magnetic fields that would influence pacemakers. Has anyone experienced such interference with pacemakers?  If so, what type of issue might occur?

Is wifi interference possible?

When I am near our combination modem/router I start to experience a pulsing sensation just under my left breast. It is not a steady rhythm. It is just hard enough to be annoying, but not painful. Could the Wifi be causing this? I have experienced it at other times, but it seems to be worse when I am near the modem/router.

PMs and CPAP Machines

I have used a pacemaker for eleven years and a Constant Positive Airway Passage machine for Sleep Apea. I recently received a new machine which used small but powerful magnets to secure the head gear. I occasionally pull the mask off in my sleep and am concerned that these magnets might affect my pm. Any comments?

I am not planning on letting any of this shorten my life. I am planning on living a long happy battery operated life. You never know maybe it will keep me alive longer. I sure know one thing I would have been dead before starting school without it.
