Upper limit for PM

Long time no post here but glad to be back, reading and hearing of success stories. It's been 2 years since I had my Medtronic ADDRL1 implanted for bradycardia problems occurring during any effort. Have not had to have any attention since the implant. I am taking 80 mg of Propranalol a day (when I remember) to help with junctional tachycardia that was observed before my PM was fitted but to tell the truth I need to get off of it altogether to see if it makes a difference.

My question...

I have MEdtronic PM and have a 2-3% AV block.Have the PM since 2007.I realize this now more than ever before. When I go for a walk, walk about 3 miles at about 4m/hr pace ,I get so exhausted about may be three times during the walk.I have to slow down for a min. or so and then can continue with my normal pace. I went o my doctor and first they thought they need to up my upper limit setting to 150 rather than 120 which I had. they thought I was doing my excercising vigrous. ( I do yoga on regular...

Paced out

Hi everyone! I have read so many posts here and wanted to get involved in some way as well as get some advice if anybody would be kind enough to do so. A bit about me, I'm 28 years old and about 2 years ago suffered from a TIA caused by myocarditis, ECG showed I had LBBB and 1st degree AV block... a complete shock! To cut a long story short I ended up having a Bi-vent PPM inserted 3 weeks ago. I am a physician myself but a novice in the land of pacemakers!

Before all of this happened...

Electronic Exercise Equipments

I would like to hear more about electronic exercise equipments and its interferance with ICDs and PMs.

I would like to know if the heart rate sensors on equipments such as treadmill and cross trainers safe to be held while it's taking the heart rate reading?

Are equipments such as heart rate monitors worn below the chest muscle safe to use?

Thanks

Elliptical and magnetic brakes?

I'm looking to purchase an elliptical and a lot, if not all, of the ones I've researched seem to have "magnetic" parts. In the specs of one of them, it mentions a Magnetic Eddy Current Brake (ECB) system, and another one advertises that it features Silent Magnetic Resistance (SMR). Obviously, with a pacemaker, the word "magnetic" is alarming to me. Would these be safe to use with a pacemaker, or should I perhaps look into purchasing a treadmill or alternate piece of equipment? Thanks!

Biventricular PM..

I am 40 years old and had OHS 4 months ago to implant an On-X mechanical aortic heart valve, repair the mitral valve with a ring, and a LIMA bypass (not required now, but while they had me open..)

I have been recovering well, and exercise daily, aerobic and weights. My heart and LV has shrunk back to normal size, but the EF remains too low at ~40%, and is not likely to improve any further by itself.

Since I have a left bundle branch block, my cardiologist has suggested a b...

horse back riding and old farts like me

I just had a dual lead Boston scientific pacemaker put in because of sick sinus syndrom. It's been 3 weeks, and I know thats rather a short time. I have a beautiful Arabian mare that I love to ride and I hope to get back on her soon. I have arthritis in my knees and a fat butt so gettin on and off my horse is a really big job pulling myself up and onto the saddle and lowering my fat butt down so my knee bends enough to allow the other foot to touch the ground. Will I ever be able to reach up...

Excersise Prior to PM Fitting

I have been diagnosed with nocturnal complete heart block (lasting 1hour 45 mins) and left bundle branch block following exercise. I have had an angiogram and MRI scan to access if my arteries were blocked, this proved ok & I am now currently on the waiting list for pacemaker fitting.
My question is, Although 54, I am still a keen sportsman taking part in activities such as Trail running, kayaking, Fell walking, Mountaineering & Mountain Rescue. I have not taken part in any sporting acti...

well i have a pacemaker & i recently just tried out for my high schools step team & i made the team, and in the sixth grade i was on the step team also, and i had to do the stress test and everything. i did fine, so obviously we really didnt think it was absolutley neccesary for us to go through all the stress test and everything again. so i just had my visit to the cardioligist yesterday and when i told my doc, it seemed like he had a problem with it? it concerned me and father. because steppin...

Help!

I have been diagnosed with Athletic Hart Syndrome, coupled with several episodes of being extremely lightheaded for several days at a crack. I expect to be told on Thursday of this week that I will need a pacemaker to speed up my very slow heart rate, about 42 normally.
I am a long time runner and am very concerned a pacemaker will negatively affect my running ability. Of course, I have a number of other concerns about a pacemaker in general but I expect I can adjust. I am 58 and hope to co...

Sporting clays

I know there are some firearms fans on here - went out on Friday and shot sporting clays with a customer.

Had a great time, didn't "worry" about disconnecting a lead or anything - except for a moment where I decided things were so damn perfect I would be okay "going out" right there :) It was absolutely beautiful in central Kentucky on Friday afternoon.

Shot a 71 out of 100, 12 gauge over under...

rifle

Thanks deerehunter, Will keep your suggestions in mind. But being righthanded, with the PM on the right, it is beginning to look less and less that I will hunt- at least not this fall. I have a carbine- and if I move to the left shoulder ( which would be uncomfortable at best), the bolt would tear up my face. Not an option! We have heard, as you may have read, that body armor (kevlar) is more than likely not the answer. I may try out the stand at a local shooting range, but am getting les...

Rate Response

This may sound very naive as I have had this for 6+ years, but I am not sure of some specifics with my friend/enemy here.
I am 100% paced in the Ventrical and about 36 % in the other. I am fighting a weight issue and am not sure if it's futile, with this thing. I have a St jude duel lead PM set at 60 and I belive 120 (130?) When I exercise, my heart rate does not seem to increase significantly no matter what. The only time I notice a major increase, is after a hot bath, hot tub etc. My ques...

Care while fireing long guns

Does anyone know how long it takes for the fibrous tissue to encapsolate the leads in the heart before it would be safe to fire a rifle or shotgun as not to dislodge a heart lead. If anyone knows this or has had personal experince with this please respond thank's.
