Thanks deerehunter, Will keep your suggestions in mind. But being righthanded, with the PM on the right, it is beginning to look less and less that I will hunt- at least not this fall. I have a carbine- and if I move to the left shoulder ( which would be uncomfortable at best), the bolt would tear up my face. Not an option! We have heard, as you may have read, that body armor (kevlar) is more than likely not the answer. I may try out the stand at a local shooting range, but am getting less and less enthused about the whole idea. There is always next year. Mikedb

Thanks bobad, I have a weapon that may just fit the bill. It owuld be worth a try. By the way- I don't use a tree stand- don't like heights. mikedb

Ever consider a pistol?

A scoped pistol can be very accurate, and plenty powerful for deer. Most tree stand shots are well under 40 yards anyway. Should be a lot more gentle on your leads.
Best of luck!
