feeling better

I have only been on this site a few days and I look forward to seeing what’s new as soon as I get home from work. Is it common to have A-Fib (ranging from 39 to 170 bpm) with either Essential tremors or sleep apnea? I believe I read a couple of post’s about someone having a PM and being tested for sleep apnea. Unfortunately I have all three Essential tremors, sleep apnea and A-fib. I know much more about either the Essential tremors or sleep apnea than I do about A-fib with a PM. But this site...

BABY WITH PACEMAKER

Hi Just come across this site and was so nice to read and hear from people with pacemakers. My baby was diagnosed with CHB when I was pregnant with her, we were distraught and scared. She had a a pacemaker fitted when she was 5 days old. I forget she has got it as she is such a happy baby and her scars have healed so well, it was all very scary and stressful when she was first born but I wouldn't change her for the world. My worries are what prob;lems lie ahead for her with going going to scho...

Thanks

I appreciate everyone’s response, I don’t know much about pacemakers and you all have been very helpful. I never thought much about a PM until my Dr called me at work just a few days ago and told me I need one right away. This didn’t leave me much time to investigate anything. But I did find this site and I’m glad I did. Does anyone know if there is a link between A-Fib and Essential tremors? I started have both at about the same time and the meds are the same for both problems. It just seem odd...

Just got my PM, need info please

Hi All, I was just sent home from the hospital today and not yet sure about living with this PM. About 1 hr ago I had a slight burning in my heart area. Am I supposed to feel anything with the PM? I’ve had A-Fib for a few years and had an ablation in Sept and it didn’t help much. Since the ablation my heart stops for 3 or 4 sec at a time, a few times a day. So I’m on more meds and a PM and not sure what I’m up against. Should I feel the PM working on my heart? I still had the irregular heart rat...

Dear RaggedyKat What you are feeling I think is pretty normal. I had an ablation almost two years ago and I am 100% dependent on this little computer. My adjustment was much harder psychlogically than physicaly. I cant tell you that I dont know its there but I have learned that this is my future and I try to eat and sleep and live right and try to be normal. I thank God for modern technology so that I can live. Everyone has the why me syndrome but think of other things we could have that...

How long does it take to get back to 'normal' after PM impant?

I had a PM put in early September, after the hospital diagnosed SSS - though I'm still not convinved that's what it really is. Pulse was down at 36, so there was definitely something wrong with the system somewhere.
I'm supposed to be taking betablockers as well, but the doctors have never given me a good reason to do this, and my GP doesn't recommend it. I'm 46 and the thought of being on Betablockers for the rest of my life doesn't entrall me, so I'm giving it a try without them.

Feeling of Impending Doom

This is going to sound a bit odd....I had a pacemaker implanted last week and when I got home I felt different and it took me a while to figure out what it was. For many months I had this feeling of impending doom and I hadn't realized how pervasive it had become to me. What I realized was that, after the PM had been implanted, the feeling of impending doom had disappeared. Have any of you experienced the same thing? It's a great feeling to not be afraid any more.

after surgery don't do much

I had to wear my left arm in a sling eight weeks after pm/defib was implanted. I slept on my back & not raise my arm. A friend of mine raised her window & pulled a lead out of place.
I had two specialists that implanted mine at a large city hospital & they recommand arm in sling a long time. They give plenty of time to make sure the leads are anchor well into the muscle & all healed in due time.
I have not had any problem of any kind & its been seven years.

A week later

It's a been a week since I had my pacer removed. I am doing fine and don't feel any big changes. Before I had the pacer removed, I was told I will have to wear a heart monitor for 2 weeks to make sure my heart rate doesn't drop too low at night, I haven't heard anything from the doctor's office about it and I don't have any appointments with the doctor either. They don't even let me make a follow-up appointment for wound check.
I understand it was my decision to have the pacer removed but I...

High Anxiety

Hi everyone, I'm new here and also new to having a defibrillator as of Nov.11, 2008. My docs have been pretty good about answering questions but there is one thing no one can seem to address. Since the day after surgery I have been feeling an incredibly high degree of anxiety. My sense is that it is related to this new thing in my chest but is also due to the underlying reason I needed the ICD in the first place. I'm also fearful of getting a whopping shock that everyone describes as a "kick in...

High blood pressure

Hi everyone, you have all kept me going this last 2.5 weeks since i started pacing. I'm the one who went into total heart block whilst having lipo on my legs.

Went to hospital for my legs yest and asked if they would do my bp, it was 170/100, scared me to death, the nurse said i'd best contact my gp. Came on here and am now assured that this is fairly common with people like me who have had a really low pulse rate for a long time. Am going to get it checked again tomorrow just to b...

Boy, the more I read, the more calm and reassured I am and then the more stressed and freaked out I am. I go for my PM next Friday and just when I think all I've read and considered about the whole deal have me feeling pretty ok with it all, I read something that gets me panicked all over again. Mostly recovery, but some concern about having leads removed one day (I'm only 35, so the chance is greater the longer I have them, I'm sure), infection, etc. In alot of ways I'll be glad to just have...

Good Advice

I appreciate all the good advice from everyone. I am just so scared of being excepted. I didnt have to worry about it when I was married because we were already together. But dating someone new is very scary. I never knew there was so many young people having pm until I found this site. I got mine when I was 26. I am now 39 and I am always the youngest person in the waiting room when I go for my check-ups. I am afraid that I am not as attractive with the pm.

Excessive sweating

I noticed some comments regarding excessive sweating. I have had a pacemaker since 1999 with a replacement in 2006. I am also on Toprol and Lisinopril, take thyroid replacement and supplemental potassium. I have experienced facial and scalp sweating for quite some time. It is excessive to the point of actually dripping from both my forehead and my hair. It is most embarassing as it can happen at any time (shopping, social event, etc.) Does anyone out there have a similar problem and what ar...
