Ed, I read your message about the sauna. My cardiologist banned me from going to the heated 100 degree physical thearapy pool and my hot tub. Had to sell my hot tub, but I really miss doing PT in the water. I am more aquatic than terra-firma. Aloha Mary Ann

Hi guys. My nephew wants me to join him in laser tag for his birthday. Has anyone played laser tag with their pace maker or heard if it was safe or not? Thanks.

Hi all
I am a new member, a yoga teacher and i need some feedback. I do not have a pace maker but i have a new student that is joining our Ashtanga yoga classes. Ashtanga yoga is a dynamic and strong cardio type of yoga, and yes the benefits out of it are countless, but i would like to ensure the safety of my student. Anyone who can give me a feedback about cardio exercise and pacemakers, i will appreciate it immensely. Is it safe to practice cardio activity with a pace maker?
Thank yo...

I received my first pacemaker two weeks ago tomorrow. Being relatively active, I'm feeling the itch to resume some form of exercise, so I've decided to go to the gym tomorrow and do a bit of cardio work (treadmill, stationary cycle, etc.). I'm wondering if there is any reason I should avoid a relaxing 10 minutes in the sauna after my workout?

I had a PM installed 14th December last year, and was feeling really terrible, until the doctors found out that I had a chronic inflammation in the appendix. When it was discovered and taken out just before Easter, things got much better overnight.
I have Afib, more after the PM was installed, than before. I feel much better now, but I guess I still have long periods of Afib, though I have trouble knowing when they occur.
Today, I had my first run, and it wasn't bad at all. But...

New member, joined today 41 yr old:). I had my PM placed 3 months ago after a dual ablation. I have placed a call to my EP but would like to join a Master's swim program. Can anyone share their knowledge and experience with me who are competitive swimmers?

Hi All
Need some advice please. Have had an ICD for 5 yrs now. Have recently purchased home cross trainer. It says it uses magnetic resistance .. there is nothing in the instructions to say unsafe but I know we have to be careful with around magnets. I have tried asking at local gym but got the impression they didn't have a clue. Also is it safe to use the following features .. pulse monitor (in the handles) and it scans for BMI .. can I use these functions? I am 36yrs, have mil...

Got my PM 3 months ago and am doing exceptionally well! First month really "babied" the arm and followed all directions. I am biking, lifting (under 50 lbs) and maintaining a fairly "normal" life. Would love to start golfing again, but am concerned that could mess up this excellent start. Is it too early to try to golf? Should I wait longer and if so, how long? Don't want to mess up the great start!

I'm still in the position of having my St Jude 5816 accelerometer
pace me at my max heart rate (close to 160) with any running,
even very slow. I have asked many people, including my
cardiologist, why I'm not feeling better in my running and why
I'm not improving in my ability to run (pace, distance, comfort).
Nobody seems to have an answer, and my cardiologist says
that he doesn't see a downside to my heart rate going up to the
max so quickly and staying the...

Hello
I'm new to this (pacemakers AND Forums).
I was admitted to the Montreal Heart Institute last Friday after collapsing at home. A Sorin Reply Dr pacemaker was inserted in my left shoulder on Tuesday afternoon and I was released the next day.
Throughout my stay at the hospital, I reminded doctors and nurses that I was a competitive swimmer, member of the 2009 and 2010 Quebec Champions: the Westmount YMCA Masters. I intend to continue swimming and wanted to ensure that the PM...

I am currently exercising about 45-60 minutes 5 days a week.
I have a PM since February and I noticed I am full of energy about 6 hours after the work out.. (because I usually go in the morning). Then I feel very very tired at times.. Keep in mind I also had a gastric bypass in July 2009 and lost 70 pounds.. Can anyone share their opinion about energy, weakness, lack of breathe?

This may seem odd to some, however very important to me. I would like to ask if I am the only one experiencing weight gain since getting a pacemaker?
I have gained about 15 pounds. I am taking Ziac, Synthroid and Aspirin. I was on a HRT until I developed a nasty DVT. It appears that I will never be able to take that again.
I try to exercise everyday, I watch what I eat but I can not get rid of more than 2-3 pounds. I am tired often times and I am not feeling all the inte...

We may be seeing heart rate monitors that can handle our pacemakers soon. One of the major integrated circuit manufacturers has announced a chip that can distinguish a pacer spike from the hearts ECG wave. This makes it easy to design a HR monitor that won't be fooled by the pacer. It would also be possible to have it show when pacing is happening. Hopefully one of the monitor manufacturers will pick up on the need.

Hi all,
I'm new to this site but have had my St. Jude pacemaker
model 5816 since Jan 2008. I read here that other people
have had similar issues with their accerometer pacing them
at max heart rate as soon as they start running and continues
to do so at a very slow running pace. Since my endurance,
running fitness, and speed don't seem to be improving at all,
even with 4 times a week running workouts, I feel that something is wrong. My cardiologist thi...

A great day yesterday(Sunday) at the range. Check it out www.84GolfCenter.com I am following the article in the NY Times which is get a small bucket only, and hit golf shots, not golf balls. The pro's spend 1/hr on 30-40 balls. I couldn't believe the guy who bought 2 large buckets then began hitting real fast......and wild!!! Just like the article said!
This range is probably one of the nicest in the country. In the town of 84....heard of 84 Lumber??? As far as the PM...I paid no atte...

Hello! I have had my Medtronic PM for three years now. I just found this site when I was searching 'coughing and PM' and found that that is sometimes common with pm recipients. I am a 55 year old female and active. I think stress was the cause of my need for a device. After dealing with selling a business, moving from the western part of the country to the east, and becoming a widow, I made a commitment to restoring my health.I've been walking (me and the dogs!) for one to two hours a day and in...

Hi all,
I will be getting my pacemaker in a month but thought I would ask this question now:-)
One of the many things I am looking forward to after the PM is my long awaited return to running. In my former, healthier life I loved to run and I miss it terribly, so I will be ecstatic to hit the road again!
For those of you that have been there, how did you ease into an exercise routine? I am going on 3 years of being unable to tolerate any form of exercise so I ima...

I am 100% pacemaker dependant and have been all my life. I try not to think about how a little metal box keeps me alive - it would drive me crazy. So I lead a very active life.
