Got my PM 3 months ago and am doing exceptionally well! First month really "babied" the arm and followed all directions. I am biking, lifting (under 50 lbs) and maintaining a fairly "normal" life. Would love to start golfing again, but am concerned that could mess up this excellent start. Is it too early to try to golf? Should I wait longer and if so, how long? Don't want to mess up the great start!

I had my pacemaker fitted 7 weeks ago and have been missing golf like mad!
I had a check up at the clinic last week and asked them when i could start playing, and they said i could play straight away.......so i immediately went to the course and had a game!
They told me that it takes between 4-6 weeks for the leads to properly bed themselves in. Once that is past (which is what the check last week was for) then get going!
Although i will say after the first game it was clear that the PM had done nothing to improve my swing!!!

I Didn't Wait Long

My Dr told me to wait six weeks. We had a family get together and my father and brothers were going to play. we very rarely all get together to play so I didn't want to miss it. This was about five weeks after my pacer. I called my Dr again and he said I could play. I was in agony after. I didn't know if I pulled leads or what was going on. It turns out I stretched some scar tissue and everything else was fine. I waited three more weeks and have been playing ever since with no problems. Everyone is different but I'd say anytime after 8 weeks is fine.

My eight year old son had a pacemaker since he was 6 months old. He does very well, plays soccer, baseball, and rides his bike. I am so glad he is not ashamed of his pacemaker. He will proudly show his "battery" to anyone.

I golfed at the 3 1/2 month mark after bypass and pm/defib insertion. I was really scared but did ok it sure made me keep my arms straight lol. just listen to your body and ask your doctor.
