Treadmill Heart Rate Monitor and Pacemaker

I was on a treadmill in a gym yesterday and gripped the handles on the treadmill to obtain a pulse rate. Held the grips for an extended period of time (longer than usual to watch the change in pulse rate as I walked) and all of a sudden felt something happening with my heart rate. I checked my pulse with my finger and it had become irregular ... as though the pacemaker was no longer regulating it. Continued to be irregular throughout the day as I experienced some of the symptoms of an irregul...

Bar code scanner

Hi, I have been back at work for a couple of months now with no major problems. This week we have been stocktaking with a hand held barcode scanner which is linked wirelessly to the till/computer system. Is it possible that this would affect my Medtronic pm? or am I just being over sensitive? thanks guys.

Good dental visit

Thought I'd post the results of my dental visit this week. I started by telling my dentist and his assistant about my PM and appreciated that they not put any pressure, magnets or electrical devices over the site. I said I'd swing first if that happened. LOL

All went well, routine cleaning and exam. No cavities!

I hope Duke (and others) have a similar experience.

PM and induction cooktop

Hello, I have a PM and I am think of getting an induction cooktop (uses magnets) but have heard that persons with pacemakers should not use them. Does anyone here have experience with this? The PM technician didn't know. And, what effect would it have on one's PM? Thanks.

High Voltage Power Lines

Hi-

I have some concerns about being in close proximity to high voltage power lines (400K). Is there anyone out there with any engineering and/or medical expertise that can help me. I would like to know what the possible dangers are. I saw guy named frank posted a few years back that, as an electric (electronic?) engineer he wouldn't want to be within 25 feet of them even without a pacemaker!

washing machine repair man

Hi. I have just recently had a pacemaker fitted which is a Sonic reply DR.
My BIG question is now .... Having contacted the heart foundation people their advice seems to be with regard to magnetic field interference from the main drive motors i.e. induction motors, carbon brush motors, inlet valves, out let pumps, various computer components etc. plus the use of testing equipment i.e. mega 1000 vlts. All these things combined, their guide lines seem to be 1 - 2 ft away from internal parts...

I need help! Anyone have an experience here?

I got a pacemaker implanted in December 2011 and life has been great. I have been off medications for the first time in my adult life. I have had no edema or palpitations. I began a new job 2 months ago as (of all things!) a monitor technician at our local hospital. I work in a room that houses approximately 30-40 computer monitors, extra telemetry boxes, charging banks, a hemochron and I wear a Vocera voice communication device at clips onto my collar. Within a couple of days of beginning...

Exercise Heart Rate Monitors

I have been walking using a highly rated Nonin Go2 Achieve finger heart rate monitor. But, even warming my fingers to attempt to get a better pulse rate reading, I cannot get reasonably consistent readings. Frequently, it just times out with no reading at all.

I concluded that a wrist unit with a chest strap would be a better option, and purchased a Garmin Forerunner 210, but have yet to actually try it, because I am worried about possible interference between the Garmin and my Medt...

Is it safe to operate a chainsaw

I had a ST JUDE PM2224 PM fitted in December 2012 for a bradycardia condition following a bicycle accident and a couple of brief stoppages. I am 52 years old and generally in good fitness. Back running around 20 mins and still recovering from an ABI. I was thinking of cutting some firewood with a pertrol driven Sthil Farmboss. Will the chainsaw interfere with my PM?

Tig welding.

I am a 25 year welder and fabricator. I was warned to stay away from welding. I didn't and tried to weld well over a hundred amps on aluminum. DO NOT TRY IT!!! I kept my arms as far away from me as I could. When I struck an arc it was like being hit with paddles. This little stunt resulted in immediate reprogramming of my PM. You cannot do industrial welding with a device. Especially TIG! My pacemaker has taken my career away, and I was damn good too...

P-STIM: Conflicting Feedback!

A device called a P-STIM has been prescribed as a non-pharmaceutical treatment for my cervical pain - specifically bilateral occipital neuralgia (almost my whole neck has been fused - I know, good grief, right?). This device is an auricular (outer ear) electro-acupuncture device that stimulates the vagal nerve. Guess it is sort of like a TENS unit?? - which is not compatible with pm's. According to my web search: 1 Hz. is delivered between 3 ?? titanium access points that are placed on the...

Hello friends,

I just had a pacemaker implantation a week back. Now i have been discharged from the hospital and staying in a hotel for few days.

Could a mobile base station tower constructed on one side of a house (hotel) interfere pacemaker's activity, if residing in rooms very close to the tower?

Thanks a lot in advance,
