I will be leaving tomorrow to spend a month at my North Georgia mountain home. I had a four mile round trip hike scheduled for next Monday with two old friends. Last night I received a message from one that we should reconsider because there is no cell phone service where we will be hiking. Now, I am unsure about what to do. I had a CRT-D implanted four months ago after a diagnosis two weeks earlier of LBBB and heart failure. I'm 61 and have always maintained a healthy exercise program. My EF is...

Just got a pacemaker on June 7, 2011 (6 days ago)--primarily because a very slow heart rate (brachycardia). I pretty much rested for a few days then started doing 30 minutes of slow cardio (burned about 340 calories) on my recom. bike. Took bp and heart rate after--hr was 79. Today I did 45 minutes of pretty easy cardio (burned 400 calories approximately)--took bp and hr 3 minutes after--heart rate = 79. I felt some heart "flutters" after today’s exercise session--...

I had my PM operation back in Nov of 2010. Prior to that time I was running 5k's in the 22 min range and 1/2 marathons's in the 1:38's (at 63 yrs old). Since coming back from the surgery I've had no luck getting even remotely close to those times. Has anyone else had a similiar experience and, if so, what did you do to overcome it and get back to where you were? I'm pretty competitive so my slow times are driving me nuts.

I am 2 and 1/2 weeks after Pacemaker implant and wondering if I can ever use the machine again even if I keep the wobbling low?
..
Would appreciate if anyone knows if this is o.k. to do or would the wobbling dislodge a wire or whatever :)
..
I had never thought about maybe the Beta Blockers were keeping an extra stone in weight on me
as I eat the same and always exercised a bit but put the stone on as the year on the Betas progressed darn it.
All the best

I did my first "cardio" workout on the treadmill today. I'm 38 and had my pacer implanted on 5/25, and though I've gone for walks in the neighborhood and easy bike rides, today was the first time I felt like I actually exercised, and it felt GREAT! I have brady/tachy syndrome and started on a beta blocker after my pacer. Prior to my pacer and beta blocker, my heartrate would get too high and stay high long after I exercised, and then dropped rapidly back down to the 40's, in addition to having p...

As a recent recipient of a dual chamber pacemaker some 2 months ago I am just getting over the physical and emotional trauma of the sutuation. I still get out of the blue what were at the beginning panic attacks but are now what I would descrinbe as anxiety attacks which are less intense. They just seem to happen without rhyme or reason.
However am getting better and now wish to start road cycling again and in season skiing. What I am looking therefore to purchase is some upper body protect...

I had pm implant April 2011 and cardioversion for flutter in early May. I am 76 and have been active including inline skating in marathon for past 15 years. I am now golfing, biking, walking, and started skating again.
I had my pm adjusted since I was getting high heartbeat numbers when skating such as 140 bpm. With the slow heartbeat prior to implant I am not accustomed to such high heart rates and am wondering if other aging athletes have any experience in returning to strenuou...

Before the implant of my PM, I used a chest strap hrm (heart rate monitor). After the surgery the chest strap hrm gave improbable readings. During extensive research I found the ePulse (a wireless hrm) which worked well but eventually flaked out and was replaced under warranty, then the second unit failed. Without any other options I ordered an ePulse2 which has lived up to the promise of the original.
I am 60 and exercise heavily, 5 day a week biking and running 30 m...

Hello everyone,
I have a pacemaker to treat my SVT. I had the ablation and it dropped my heart rate to about 50. I have spoken to my DR and he says I am fine to work out/exercise. I am still really scared and wanted to get some of your feedback on what I should do.

Anyone who caught my story initially back in fall of last year, knows that my pacemaker and I have not become friends. That being said, at least I am finally getting my life back. The first 3 months after surgery were the most difficult as the recovery from surgery was so painful and then the bronchitus had the doctor concerned that all my coughing would disconnect my leads.
I had been training to run my first race when all this happened to me so unexpectedly. I had signed up to ru...

As many of you here know when I got my pacer just about 2 years ago I set a goal for completing a bicycle ride here in Colorado called the Triple Bypass (appropriate don’t you think?). I had done it in the past but it had been 5 years since I had last completed it and I hadn’t been riding nearly as much as I should of due to changes in my job and such. It is a tough ride, some say one of the toughest done by recreational riders in the country (http://www.teamevergreen.org/triple)....

I have a 2008 CRF450 that I loved to ride before I got my little buddy. Today I rode a pretty technical Motocross track with lots of Big Air and technical sections. Although I cant wait for my doc to turn down my settings LOL. I was just fine. I bought a special roost protector by Troy Lee design that has padding on it and it fits perfectly underneath my hard chest protector. I am racing this summer. WOO HOO...... Never let them mess with hope and the things you love.

I have just had PM fitted a week ago. After being diagnosed with complete Heart Block. Can anyone tell me know if I can continue training in full contact martial arts if I can find protection for the PM site. How long before I can start training again and what I should avoid. thank you very much.

I am a new member, who had a pace maker installed on 4/18/11. I am an avid right handed golfer, who is scheduled to play two tournaments in Reno on 6/12 & 6/13/11. I will be post surgery 8 weeks on 6/13/11. I have been very careful not to do anything that would endanger my recovery, because I do not want to go through this again. As I understand it you must be careful when swinging a driver so as not to pull the lead wires. My shoulder and incision site feel great at this point. Are there...

I saw my St Jude rep this morning and asked him again about exercises that might hurt the leads. My dr has never given me any restrictions but based on what I've read here I have not tried pull ups or other exercises that involve hanging. My rep's exact words were it would take a bulldozer to pull out a lead, exercise is not going to damage it, do whatever I want. The scar tissue may get aggravated so I may end up not doing it, but it's safe to try. Yay!!!!
Ok so what are my restrictions for 2nd Pacemaker

I had my 2nd pacemaker installed with no lead change. My old doctor spelled out what my restrictions were for my 1st one. But, my new doctor did not give definite restrictions, he waivered his responses. What did your doctor tell you ? I exercise, so when can I lift light weights ? When can I put my arms over my head (I do ballet w/weights) So, please help.

I posted this message last week but it seems to have been lost in the system. Trying again.
I am female aged 70 and have been paced for about 18 years. My current PM is dual chamber. I have persistent AF, not suitable for ablation due to due to a repair to an atrial septal defect many years ago. As a long term complication of that surgery I have a leaky mitral valve. Neither the AF nor the incompetent valve causes me any problems. I am fit and a...
