Feels Great To Exercise Again

I did my first "cardio" workout on the treadmill today. I'm 38 and had my pacer implanted on 5/25, and though I've gone for walks in the neighborhood and easy bike rides, today was the first time I felt like I actually exercised, and it felt GREAT! I have brady/tachy syndrome and started on a beta blocker after my pacer. Prior to my pacer and beta blocker, my heartrate would get too high and stay high long after I exercised, and then dropped rapidly back down to the 40's, in addition to having palpitations and SOB. I was able to get through 30 minutes on the treadmill, getting my heartrate up to 145 and back down to my resting rate of 70 without being symptomatic. (I could have gone longer, but didn't want to overdo it). Though my recovery has progressed well, today was the first day I've really felt, "I'm so glad I did this." So glad I found this site, and the wealth of information and support it's been for me.

Hi Dawn, It's great to hear someone with medical background to take atvantage of your knowledge. I have a RCA stent and followed up with Cardiac Rehab. This was after having PMs' for 15 years prior. I have regular Cardiolite stress tests & still do my Rehab. I don't see too many PM patients posting about being on a program. As you probably already know my next line, but I want to say get on a regular heart healthy program and you will remember this posting for years. I'm on my 4th PM and nearing the 20th PM year mark. I'll be 80 in 6 months & going strong!! Donb

I love to exercise too!

I had my pm put in Feb 2010. I couldn't wait to get back to exercising. In addition to walking the dog several times as day, I walk on the treadmill 3 times a week for about 70 minutes (this includes a 10 minute warm up and 10 min cool down.) I try to keep my heart rate under 127 during my workouts (I will be 55 in a few short months) to keep it cardiac and not anaerobic. On the other days I ride my recumbent bike so this way I exercise different leg muscles .

In addition I do Pilates and Yoga. I find that it is more difficult to stay loose at my age, but the yoga has helped tremendously with my range of motion and flexibility. Keep up the exercising, it does make one feel great!

You can finally prove that you have a heart.
