Running Recovery Time

I had my PM operation back in Nov of 2010. Prior to that time I was running 5k's in the 22 min range and 1/2 marathons's in the 1:38's (at 63 yrs old). Since coming back from the surgery I've had no luck getting even remotely close to those times. Has anyone else had a similiar experience and, if so, what did you do to overcome it and get back to where you were? I'm pretty competitive so my slow times are driving me nuts.

I'm 49 and had my PM fitted last October. As a rock climber, mountaineer & runner I started running again around 6 weeks after op. My problem is constant palps since op so I've really got to push my self to go out and run. Some days I feel great running & others I don't. There's more 'I don't's'. I haven't been climbing since last October, weak shoulder/arm at site of op. I'm getting back to normal, just slowly. Once I get these palps sorted out, I'll be great. Keep with it Gordy. Gary UK.

stress test

Do you feel ok when you run? If you are, your dr is probably going to tell you there's nothing he can do but you might want to ask for a stress test. Let them hook you up to the pm computer and watch what happens when you run, see if anything's going on when your hr is in the upper range.

How long from first symptom to diagnosis to pacemaker? And why did you get the pm? If you had problems for a while before you got the pm, it can take a toll on your body and it will take a while to bounce back fully. I know it's frustrating, but 6 months really isn't that long, definitely not long enough to be worried. It took me a lot longer to bounce back last year at 43 than it did for the exact same surgery when I was 27. I'm in better shape now than I've ever been, but it took me a good year to get here, and it felt like it took a lot more effort this time. Aging sucks :o)
