Backpacks

Hello Gevans,

I was just checking out your photo in the member Gallery and I must say that is an impressive pack you have on your back.

Question: Was that picture taken before the pacemaker or after? Where was your picture taken? I love the outdoors.
It is a great picture!

Going Home at Last.

Hello Friends and Fellow pacers.

I am about to conquer my fear. After 3 years, of being afraid to make the commitment to go visit my family in Paris, France, I AM GOING!
I have non refundable tickets, so I can't change my mind. Lol.
I must admit that I'm a little nervous at the prospect of such a long flight, ( first time in the air with a pacemaker, ) and I hope it all goes smoothly.
I haven't seen my brothers or sisters or my mother in 11 years.
Peter Nash, if y...

Being young and feeling old!

Hi y'all! To all the people that I have not met yet welcome to this amazing club. I thought my title was pretty good as its the way I have been feeling lately.
As many of you know I have been fighting with trying to get the numbness out of my left hand which now carries into my left leg. I have an apointment on the 14th to determine what the next step is. My pacer needs some more tuning as I think my heart has a mind of it's own. I recently lost my health insurance due to having a bi...

Cost and developement of pacemakers

I have been looking at the cost of pacemakers to the third world.
There has been an attempt by the industry to do something but the price of the low cost pacemakers for the third world is $1000 dollars plus the cost of the lead and the surgery. The cost works out at considerably more than the annual salary of someone living in the third world. Is it any wonder that many countries have less than 1 pacemaker inplant per 1 million population. There is a great need to get the price down to $100...

Idea

I have noticed many on this site taking about the cost of pacemakers and surgeries. Heres an idead: what if we started a fundraiser for those in need of pacemakers and difibilators who dont have medical insurance and cant afford them. We could start a charity foundation and this site (with legal consent, of course) could be our sponsors. You ask for something like a cookie and your told no because you dont need one, but when you ask for a pm or difib they so no because u cant afford one. Also t...

Activities Profile

To all the wonderful members of this organization,

I've been a member for less than a month and I really enjoy all the postings, but I respond only when I have some relevant input. Usually, I look for the posters profile and then send a private message...unless I think I have some nugget of information from which all could benefit.

I have always been a very active individual and I don't plan on something that will prolong that lifestlyle (i.e. a PM) from doing anything but...

Chat Room :-)

Just wanted to say something about the Chat Room here....

The chat room is fun.... not one of us is going to critique the other in a chat room. Letters are left out, words are mangled and lots of just plain old miss-spellings go on there..... On the other hand, Peter, you get to have a chance to have a "real" conversation. Who cares about the way any of us type when we are chatting. Allow yourself to try it out.... you just might be surprised! This suggestion goes for everyone ;-)...

Visitors

I would like to ask a question.... when I am online I sometimes see my username in the "Who's on line" Sometimes I don't. Blake has recently shared with me that he is working on it.

Here is my question:

What is the highest number for visitors at any time here at the Pacemaker Club site?

Last night it was at 342! That's a lot of people who are interested in reading what we write.

hey all,
Wide awake at 4 am here on the east coast US. Been having problems intermitantly with pacer capture since it was put in last monday. thursday they increased my output from 3.5 to 6 but still was having problems with capture. It was amazing how quickly I could feel symptomatic with the drops it was almost instantly cold, nauseous etc. Anyway had to have my wired readjusted last night. This time I was no brave girl and got lots of drugs! More sore this time but I don't care as long...

Sports drinks

I saw a post a few days ago that pointed out that drinking too much water could be detrimental. My electrophysiologist told me this upfront when I received my Pacemaker. Now again everyone is different and diets are different for everybody. In my case however he told me to stay hydrated for my condition which is Vasovagal Syncope. He also said I needed to keep up my electrolytes. Water is good but too much water washes out electrolytes so it was his suggestion to drink Gatorade or Power aid. Thi...

Information

Hi; I am new at this. I had received this CYLOS DR-T pacemaker. Also some of the record describe the pacemaker as DDDR. No one has ever explained anything to me, including the physician as to the selection of pacemaker and what one should know or do. I do not feel any different than before having this device..
Any one have any information on how they work and why the different titles. My card reads the cyclops but the doctor records say DDDR. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank You....

Question ?

Hi

When I have a Telephone pacer check can anyone tell me exactly what they read on the other end of the phone?

Battery Life?
Rhythm Check?

Is this sent to and read by a Dr. or is it just the pacer nurse who reads it?

Any help is appreciated.........Thanks.

Sarcoidosis and Heart Block

Hi y'all. I am normally a lurker here and have gained so much from reading what you all share with each other and now I am hoping someone can help me out.

I was just officially diagnosed with sarcoidosis. Apparently this is what caused me to have complete heart block and caused me to have to have a pacemaker. So I guess it affected my heart as well as my lungs at this point. Anyway.... My pulmonolgist and cardiologist have been working together and have concluded that I will start...
