Hi
I have just joined having had a pacemaker (St Jude Medical PM2112) implanted one week ago. I live in the UK (North Yorkshire).
I've been advised I must not exercise for six weeks. I'm concerned what happens when I start training again.
I race two ironman distance triathlons each year, as well as a couple of half-ironman distance triathlons.
I am age 61 (almost 62). At the age of 12 I had "growing pains" (rheumatic fever) which caused a leaky aortic...

My medtronic kappa 400 just went into end of life mode and I'm shopping for a new PM. I have chronotropic insufficiency which means my heart cant get above 100 bpm unaided. My kappa has accerometer and MV sensors. Using the accelerometer as primary sensor caused my heart to be overpaced which led to a (thankfully) temporary heart failure diagnosis . Most recently after an adjustment at the Mayo Clinic (Sports Cardiology) it was using MV as primary and was working OK. Medtronic no longer uses MV...

I am 70 yr old male. I was a bike racer from the mid 70's-late 80's and quit riding for 23 yrs. The past 9 years I have been in persistent a fib. My last Holter monitor found a period of low hr, 24 bpm, and 3 instances of a pause of more than 3 sec. I am going to have a PM implanted on 6/13/2013.
I started back riding the bike 6 months ago and ride 4 days a week with a milage of 80-100 miles a week.
I am going to be anxious to start back cycling as soon as possible after getting the i...

Hi everyone
I had a pacemaker fitted 7 weeks ago, so almost at a point where i can get back to doing everything.
A few things puzzle me and the doctors don't seem to give you many answers so has anyone got anything to add about the following:
1. The pacemaker feels so very uncomfortable and everything i do makes its hurt. The skin feels so tight over the box and it almost feels like its trying to break its way out.
2. I seem to have lost so much fitness it this short pe...

Hi, I just had my pacemaker put in about 7 weeks ago. My heart stopped for 16 seconds and then again for a minute while I was in the hospital for another incident so they put it in like, the next day. They said I was born with some heart defects that caused this to happen at such a young age. I have my final appointment where they are supposed to tell me I have no restrictions this Thursday.
I'm totally out of shape and overweight and I really want to fix that. But I'm really nervou...

I just had a pacemaker implanted mid-May. I was an athlete and am not sure when or how I can go back to exercise. Doctor does not take my exercise as seriously as I do since most Egyptian women my age do not exercise at all!

My surgeon said to wait two months to return to full golf to give scar tissue chance to adhere leads to heart wall. I have read some posts that suggest three months. Thoughts?

I had a Medtronic 3 lead PM fitted about 20 months ago (sensor deactivated). The first year was fine and I ran 21k, 32k and 42k quite comfortably. Apparently I have now developed a SN probelm and HR is not natuarally increasing as it did at first. In the last 6 months I have experienced tiredness and lame legs when running. I run quite a lot and this has restricted my activities. Prior to a 21k in March I had the "sensor" activated at the lowest sensitivity level and then increased one notch...

I had a Ross Procedure done in August of last year. It's a double heart valve replacement. A complication arose resulting in full heart block and the need for a pm. My husband and I had to decide quickly and we went with the Revo because it was MRI compatible and wouldn't have any effect on my lifestyle according to the EP we consulted with in the hospital. I'm 47 and physically active. During cardio rehab, my heart rate would get to 130-150 and then drop to 69-72. I saw a different EP who tells...

Yesterday I went to the PM Clinic for the first check at seven weeks. It was a great relief to learn that all was OK and that I had not pulled the leads out and my worries about feeling faint and breathless at times were normal with my particular problems I have a dual PM for AF and a 2:1 heart block. This was fitted in an emergency. Most of the time I feel great.
I am nearly 80 and normally have gone to the gym twice each week. Recently I asked my Dr. if I could start going again a...

Doctor told me today I need a pacemaker, I have information overload, except on the subject of weight training with a pacemaker. Other than doc telling me I'd have to cut way back at the gym, I don't know much more than that. I went to brain freeze after his statement. Any advice??? Thanks in advance.

I just had a Medtronic "MRI Surescan" implanted last Thursday. My resting pulse rate had been in the 30's. My hobby has been long distance running which I want to continue, although at 70 years old I think I'll cut back to half marathons and shorter (except if I get into the New York marathon.) Any suggestions for me from other pm runners?

I had my pacemaker placed almost 2 years ago for sss. (I was born with a congenital heart defect. And Im only 26) For a while I had no problems whatsoever. It even lowered my high heart rates. Recently I have had very noticeable symptoms of low blood pressure. I know when it drops because I get super cold and can't get warm, I get so tired that using the remote to change the channel on the tv is hard, and I get the cold sweats. The lowest it has been (when I checked it) is 89/65. Most of the tim...

I am a 50 year old female and I had an ablation back in 2003 after being diagnosed with tachycardia. I then had a PFO closed in 2006. I am a triathlete and bike racer and love my sporting activities. Lately I have had nausea, light headedness/dizzy and some very sharp pains in the back side of my right arm - last one in March of this year - lasts for about an hour and then goes away. I am a vegetarian and work a fairly stressful job. I have Factor Five Leiden as well. Dr. said some time ag...

Thank you so much to Ian and the Mother who answered my post from yesterday - I appreciate your time and advice very much. I scheduled an appointment last week to see my regular cardiologist - it is tomorrow. I have worn my Garmin continuously to give him information about my heart rate, have taken notes and have also taken my BP with a wrist cuff as the BP is very low at times as well. The chest pain feels more like a headache in my chest and is at times accompanied with nausea and the dizzy...

I have had my PM for two weeks, and naturally have lots of questions.
I read lots of good postings about vigorous exercise...amazing to a newbie like me.
My question concerns the g loading during acrobatic flying. Clearly the shoulder harness issue has to be addressed, but what about the sustained g loads, e.g., 10-15 seconds at +4 times your body weight?
My doctors said avoid jaring for 3 months, which I plan to do. But what then?
You know you're wired when...
