Recovery

I just had a pacemaker implanted mid-May. I was an athlete and am not sure when or how I can go back to exercise. Doctor does not take my exercise as seriously as I do since most Egyptian women my age do not exercise at all!

Why did you get the pm and are you otherwise healthy? If you have no other health issues and the pm fixes your heart problems, you should be able to walk and do light aerobic exercise now if you feel up to it. Don't raise the arm higher than shoulder level and don't lift anything heavy for about 6 weeks. Anything else is ok. Just ease back into your old routine. I found anything with impact, like running, hurt for about a month. You won't damage the pm, but shaking it up before it's healed can make it sore.

Try Rehab

Different people recover at different paces. Try Cardio rehab. They will let you push yourself, but also keep a practiced eye on you. I had my pm in mid March and I am beginning to feel more confident in exercising. I am not sure when to start strength exercising. I know that you need to follow the timeline about lifting your arm over your head. Others may know when you can do weights. But walking is a good start. Walk with a friend.
