Hyperventilation

To Frank & Smitty,

Thanks for your comments. I know for a fact I have a lead that is barely connected via my doctor. We decided to not 'fix' it because I was functioning OK and why fix something when it is working. I've heard the panic theory and there is merit to that but this happens when I am sound asleep and I wake up from it. When I held my breath I was essentially doing the paper bag trick and it worked. But it also happened when I do any sort of excertion such as walking up the...

hyperventilation

I have had my pacemaker since 2003 or there about. One of my leads is barely connected. Recently I was playing with my grandkids in the pool and ever since I have had hyperventilation (panting like a dog) where it seems like I can't catch my breath until I hold my breath for a moment and the sensation goes away for awhile, then it comes back. I don't have to be doing anything to trigger this. I went into the er yesterday but they say I'm normal; whatever that means. I think I have disconnected t...

Alarm System Two

I had to go to the doctors today and they read my pacemaker numbers. They have to call my other heart doctor to schedule my out patient surgery. My voltage is down to 2.62. That is why my alarm is going to go off every morning at 10:30 a.m. I get a new one very soon. It just bothers me when it goes off. Thanks for letting me vent. Your encouragement is beyond discription. God Bless

Connecting wire pain

Anyone having issues with regards to their connecting wires?

Two years ago, I was DX with breast cancer. My pacemaker had to be relocated from the left to the right side so it would be out of the way for post-surgery rads Surprise, following surgery I was informed I would no longer need radiology but of course, I now had a pile of extra wires in my chest.

I have have been experiencing a lot of pain in the area of the connecting wires. I returned to work, now teaching, and w...

Pacemaker with high threshold

My son got his pacemaker replaced last year but need to replaced again this year, the new PM will only last less than a year because the threshold is needed to be on set as high as 6, 2 months after the operation, the doctor said that reason can be a wrong location of lead in the heart when the replacement was made last year. This is very disappointing situation and thinking to sue the doctors. Doctors even said that replacing the lead and batteries will not make sure that a low threshold can be...

Does anybody know anything about lead sensitivity? The EP said something about lead sensitivity changing from time to time , I don’t understand what they mean if the leads are firmly attached to the heart wall how can the way the PM senses the leads change? Has anyone noticed a change on there print outs from interrogration to interrogation...

Are Leads "Model Device Specific"

I will discuss the below with my doctor at my next visit, however, I wanted to get some feedback from the site prior thereto.

I have a dual lead Medtronic pacemaker that will be "up for replacement" in the next couple of years. In researching other manufacturer's models and what they have to offer, a thought occurred to me regarding leads.

Generally, when pacers are replaced it is my understanding that (if the leads are still good), they unplug the old from the leads and...

anybody know?

Went to go see my EP today because i've been getting out of breath feeling for no apparent reason. Its like my breath is taken away then it comes right back.Thay said there's been a change since my last visit in my lead it must have shifted a little. Before it was sensed at 1.6 and now its at .8 or something. Thay said my pm is still working fine and doing its job, but the only way for me not to feel that feeling which they said is my diaphram being simulated also, is to go in a reposition my lea...

Finally ERI

Well I had my pacer check today and I was in ERI mode, after having frequent pacer checks for over a year! Now I have another question. I have a Guidant pacemaker now. The surgeon who will do my generator change prefers a Medtronic pacer. He would probably put in another Guidant (Boston Scientific now) if I ask him to, but he seems to think the Medtronic is better and has a longer battery life. My Guidant lasted 7 years almost to the day. So what are your opinions about which pacemake...

Sorin

Does anyone else have a Sorin PM? I looked at people's profiles and they all seem to be either Medtronic or St Jude's. I've got a Sorin Reply DR, is there any real difference? Just a random question, not at all important, but just wondered.

Thanks,
Emma

Elective replacement

Hello I have just joined this group. Does anyone have a DDDR Guidant pacemaker that has needed the generator change? Mine was placed in June 2002 and I am almost ready for a generator change according to my MD and pacemaker battery checks. A few days ago I was mowing my lawn and was short of breath the whole time, I took my pulse and it was 70, which is the low limit on my pacer. I have not had this problem before when I exercise, but now when I do I can't seem to get my pulse over 70 no ma...

If their is a problem with the leads on the pacer has it become a routine procedure to remove them. At one time it was a real risk. Are their some Dr.s that just specalize in the removal. My leads have been in for over eleven years.

Replacement

I know I've only just had my pacemaker fitted, but a friend of mine asked me recently if I'd have to stay overnight in hospital every time I have the battery/leads replaced? I've tried searching but can't find the answer.
